What is SSBMRank?

For the 2nd straight year, MeleeItOnMe is leading the charge in ranking the world’s best Melee players and counting them down on Twitter (@MeleeItOnMe) from No. 100 to No. 1.

We asked our panel of Top Players, Commentators, and Figureheads to rate the quality of play for each player during the 2014 year from a scale of 1 to 10. The ratings are compiled into one overall average rating with the lowest and highest values taken out to account for variance.

How did we select the nomination list?

The initial list comprised of players who performed well at Nationals (Apex 2014, MLG Anaheim, Evo 2014, and The Big House 4) and were considered “active” in the year. Players could be nominated if they performed well at a US National and also were dominating their local US scene. Since the panelists are primarily in the US, several players that play regularly in Canada, Mexico, Japan, and Europe were not included in the rating process. In addition, certain highly skilled players were not included for their lack of activity. Understandably, some may be angry that their favorite player was not included in this process. To those that are disappointed, I hope that you can encourage them to continue to play in 2015, so that they can be on the Top 100 list next year.

When will SSBMRank 2014 be unveiled?

The rankings will come out starting on December 1, 2014. Perhaps, as a Thanksgiving gift, #100 may be revealed sooner.
