Mayhem 9-6 (139 Singles Entrants) – 9/6/2014, South Pasadena

Resampled_2014-09-06_13-23-06_402

New beginnings for Mayhem. I have a new partner PEEF who is a veteran TO from the midwest excited to get back into the swing of hosting. We switched to a new venue to allow for more space & setups. We also donated $1 from each entrant ($139 total) to the Youth Shack of South Pasadena (www.youthshack.info). It operates on the Oneonta Campus and incorporates a lot of video game playing as a part of a mentorship program for teens.
Things didn’t run as smooth as i had planned, but it seems everyone had fun and will be looking forward to the next one. We are already looking into ways to make the next one better. Sadly the day of our original streamer found out he wasn’t able to make it, so we streamed it on twitch.tv/macdsmash The quality of stream wasn’t up to par because of the last minute hiccup, but we got it going by the main part of singles bracket. Vids will go up on MacD’s youtube channel.
Gameplay wise it was exciting. S2J won the tourney taking a set off of Westballz in I don’t know how long. it was an exciting Grand Finals and very unexpected results on all fronts. Lucky was the front runner and expected winner, but lost to S2J in WF and Westballz in LF. and Larry Lurr beat HugS to secure his top 4 placing.

SoCal Pizza 2 (55 Singles Entrants) – 9/3/2014, Mission Viejo, CA

Our 2nd installment of what is going to be a weekly series. It was started as a fun little series for Orange County to get together, play some melee, and meet others in the area. It’s hosted at SoCal Pizza (similar to a Lamppost Pizza). Once again it was tons of fun and everyone seemed to have a good time. The results might not be what you expect because there can be tons of alcohol involved for anyone of age.

BIO! 2 (38 Singles Entrants) – 9/7/2014, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

BIO! 2 was everything that we hoped for and more. We had high expectations, but we did not expect to nearly hit 40 entrants in melee. Moogle and his Huntsville trekked down to Tuscaloosa and showed us how to play Melee. Keno (Cheap Peach) ran through almost everyone he met in tournament, only falling to Moogle. Saint Rage showed us why Falco is really good, but ultimately fell to Keno. Finally, poor Zylo got knocked out of another tournament by Saint Rage. Can’t wait for the next one!

Nebulous Saturday Melee 13 (23 Singles Entrants) – 9/6/2014, New York, NY

Nebulous was smaller this week, with the usual top 3 (Hax/Moon/DJN) all not in attendance. Dizzkidboogie returned to NYC in full force, winning the first tournament he attended since he got back. JSex made a valiant attempt at defeating the wobbling menace, but his fox wasn’t able to finish it (both sets went to a close game 5). HectoHertz had a great tournament, his first top 3 at nebulous, taking JSex to last stock last game before choking away the victory. Skrach continued to place well since moving to NYC, with his second 4th place finish.

BIO! 2 (43 Singles Entrants) – 9/7/2014, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Bio! 2 PM broke 40 entrants, which is way more than we expected. Everything ran smoothly, and Birmingham took our money. Keno’s Peach proved to be too good, and he won never dropping a set. George took 2nd with his solid Charizard, after losing to Mr. Mario in Winner’s, but beating him in Loser’s. Mr. Mario’s Mario performed admirably, but was not able to stand up to Keno’s peach. Finally, The Preacher’s DK and Wolf tore through Loser’s, but ultimately fell to George.

1. Keno
2. George

Smash Academy Weekly 1 (39 Singles Entrants) – 9/2/2014, Orlando, Florida

This was the first weekly edition of The Smash Academy! Usually the monthlies bring in 60-70 competitors, so only 20 were expected, but we got a nice crowd with 39 players! We saw some tough battles between the members of Gaming Knights, most noteably the battle between GK Sartron (currently on PMBR) and GK Dark Sonic (was on PMBR previously). Colbol loves to switch between Mario and Fox when playing PM, showing strong play while doing it.
