Zenith 2014 (280+ Singles Entrants) – 8/2/2014, Brooklyn, NY
An exciting weekend of Smash on the East coast that even featured actor, Dylan Sprouse. Singles featured some upsets in bracket as Wizzrobe defeated Axe in Winners and The Moon defeated Fly Amanita in Loser’s. Overall, The Moon played impressively well, finishing 9th and overcoming an early loss to Phish-it. The later matches in Top 8 were all intense as Axe was on the brink of defeat several times before finally losing to Zhu in a contested 5 game set. In winner’s, things look very promising for Hax as he was able to take a 2-0 lead before losing 3 straight to Mew2King. Hax ended up narrowly beating Zhu to get a shot at redemption. Hax managed to take set 1 of grand finals before losing steam and falling to Mew2King, the champion of Zenith.

805 Alive! (82 Singles Entrants) – 8/2/2014, Thousand Oaks, California
This was the first large scale tournament ever hosted at a real deal venue in the Ventura County area. It was put on by Krusty Kurt and Goldio, community leaders of the rapidly growing 805 Melee scene. We were not able to stream due to internet issues. Despite this, we recorded some very high quality videos with our professional streaming set up and these will be going up in the near future. We hope to see the So Cal Smash community come and visit us again in the future, as we have doubtlessly proven that 805 Melee is indeed alive and well.

Örebrawl 2014 (48 Singles Entrants) – 8/1/2014, Örebro, Sweden
The third annual Örebrawl was held in Örebro, Sweden during the weekend august 1-3. Örebrawl is, despite its age, one of the biggest fighting game events in Sweden, drawing the country’s strongest players in games such as Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs Capcom 3, King of fighters and Tekken. This year, the newly established Melee scene in Örebro came in contact with Shoryuken Örebro, the organization behind this event, and were invited to join their main line up of fighting games at this year’s event. The turnout was huge despite clashing dates with a larger Finnish tournament, and drew many players from other fighting games into participating and checking out competitive Melee, contributing to the integration of Melee into the FGC. Notable players included Calle W, Mike Haggar, Humpe, Master Kai, Random-ness and several other skilled Swedish players. A total of 25 teams joined us for the doubles tournament, and 48 singles participants definitely turned out to be a positive surprise for our greenhorn TOs. A messy stream was provided by Orebrosmash over at Twitch.tv, while other fighting games were properly streamed by Shoryukenorebro. Commentary was mainly provided when possible by TOs and local players PUMP and GNDY, with the occasional take-over from our other local players.

Schuurfest (18 Singles Entrants) – 8/3/2014, Landsmeer, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
With the Netherlands activity mostly coming from the south, Noord-Holland hasn’t seen a lot of tournaments the past year. Mindtrick (probably most known for Jurassic Parkour) saw to change this and made his TO debut by hosting a 20 man local at his house in Landsmeer. Next to a idyllic lake in a location that could easily be mistaken for a holiday resort players like Amsah, Mr-R, Faab and Ser battled for 1st place in Melee and Project M. At the end of the day Faab and Amsah picked players for a draft crew battle.

Also, is that a subtle EMP boycott? Hahaha
The weekly wrap-ups are auto-fed from TOs, so if a TO doesn’t put the information up, then it won’t show up on these articles.
