Smash @ Clarendon (67 Singles Entrants) – 7/3/2014, Arlington, Virginia
Just in time for the Fourth of July holiday was another installment of Smash at Clarendon. Bringing out over 60 entrants on a Thursday, the bar atmosphere proved once again to be a huge draw for the local MD/VA scene. Due to time constraints (as the Metro closes at midnight on weeknights) only GFs were played as best of 5. Chillin and DoH advanced over Mahone and DP (2-1 and 2-0) respectively to meet once more in Winners finals, which DoH took fairly convincingly 2-1. Watch the vid and you’ll get that pun. Chillin beat Mahone once again in Loser’s Finals, and then stormed through Grand Finals 6-0 to teach DoH to never drink at a tournament again.
All in all another successful showing from Smash @ Clarendon, and the event ran extremely smoothly even with Nintendude’s absence. The summer of smash is in full force in the DMV!

Van Alive I (66 Singles Entrants) – 7/5/2014, Vancouver, British Columbia
The University of British Columbia hosted its third Melee local, and the first of the Van Alive series, joining with the UBC eSports Association to bring a 66-man local that featured some of the best in BC and special guest Diakonos. The former BC Marth dropped a set to Yakal in Winner’s Finals before making the runback through Grand Finals to take out P4K|BluntedObject10 in two tight 3-2 sets that exhibited the diversity of the counterpick game between the two longtime competitors.

Princeton Weekly #1 (29 Singles Entrants) – 7/5/2014, Princeton, New Jersey
Central Jersey was devoid of a consistent local, so two of my friends and I decided to start Princeton Weeklies to help players in Central NJ who didn’t want to drive an hour to North Jersey just to play a few matches. We were very pleased with our debut, 29 entrants and a cumulative prize pool of $257. There was a mixture of both inexperienced and experienced players, but C!Z ran through the tournament (setting a possible record for the shortest BO5 GF set?). 3rd place Icer, one of the best foxes in NJ, may have been able to stop C!Z, but he initially believed C!Z was not going to be there, thus promising to go Captain Falcon throughout the tournament. 2nd place Son2 was a surprise for all of us, coming from South Jersey, an area where a smash scene is virtually non-existent. Yet, he took down notable players such as NJzFinest, Env, Overflow, and Icer. With the turnout in our debut tournament, we have high aspirations for the future. Here’s a highlight reel of our tournament: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVWIcdNwMm8
