SF Throwdown #1 (60 Singles Entrants) – 5/31/2014, San Francisco, CA

folsom

Showdown.GG threw its first Throwdown at the Folsom Street Foundry Saturday, May 31, 2014 in San Francisco. With Shroomed and SFAT participating in SKTAR3 the same weekend and PewPewU barred from participating at the 21+ venue – the Throwdown title was up for grabs.
L’s solid Fox play carried him through a wave of upsets in winners bracket over Waffles, Laudandus, and Scar to boost him into a solid 3rd place finish. Waffles trekked his way through the loser’s bracket, winning the first SF Throwdown in consecutive sets over the legendary green Falcon himself, Silentspectre.

Game Over 16 (57 Singles Entrants) – 5/27/2014, Somerville, MA

Another successful week over at East End Grille, a total of 57 players came out making this our largest Game Over to date at this venue. Bracket ran from 8:20 to ~12:00am using 9 TVs. As always, a big thank you to the players that contributed with setups and to everyone for being so cooperative throughout the event.
For the second week in a row we have seen Mafia and Zoso duke it out in Grand Finals, but Zoso has done a spectacular job holding the crown week after week and this was no exception. For this being Mafia’s second Game Over attendance since returning from school this is certainly impressive.
MIT’s Captain YCZ6 had a lower-than-average performance scoring a cool 5th place in what is his last Game Over as he goes back to NorCal. Additionally, Harvard University’s Captain GLee is also moving back to that region after graduation. They will be missed and we all wish them the best in their next chapter.
Dudutsai continued his stampede through brackets reaching 3rd place in his 3rd tournament in 4 days and old school legend Faust (formerly Unknown Force) landed at 4th going through Squible, Nuro, and YCZ6 in losers until succumbing to Dudutsai.
Crush, a highly technical space-animal main, scored himself some cash with 5th place. Defeating Mr Lemon (Doctor Mario), SoCal’s own DJ Mirror, and MattDotZeb in a quick 2-0 set, Crush fell to Dudutsai in Losers Quarter Finals.

EXPosure 10 (47 Singles Entrants) – 5/31/2014, Oak Park, IL

Just one week after UFGTX, before the dust from the hype had even settled, EXP Gaming’s monthly EXPosure series debuted it’s 10th edition. Attendance was a little slumped compared to the record highs we saw at the last few EXPosures, but the matches saw no drop off in quality.
Melee came in at just under 50 entrants and offered little in the way of surprises. Bieber came out to make a statement, showing close sets against Kels in both Winner’s and Grand Finals. In the end, however, Kels triumphed once more, taking his 6th EXPosure Melee crown.

Jax Runbax (44 Singles Entrants) – 5/31/2014, Jacksonville, FL

A historically barren region in terms of Melee, Jacksonville is now seeing the budding of lively scene. This tournament is the first hosted in the region that has seen out-of-city attendance.
Unfortunately for Jacksonville, the hometown heroes in Gage and marsfool (idgaf aka hungover) were unable to stop the heavy hitters from central Florida with CFL taking all top 4 spots.
