Michigan decided to try a new bracket classes format, ala the Japanese Melee scene, which resulted in a day full of upsets. Early in pools, Russell bounced Hellsing and Ginger into losers bracket, making a case for future Michigan HM/PR consideration. Later, Prince Abu joined an exclusive club (founded by TheCrimsonBlur) of players to lose to Kirby while sober, losing to Ginger in a high stakes moneymatch. During first class bracket, Juggleguy made a run to 3rd place with wins over Kalamazhu and Abu, while KJH continued to impress by beating Duck in two sets to take the whole tourney.

With some of Norcal’s best at a nearby tournament in Sacramento, every placing below Shroomed was up for grabs here. Alan defeated Ralph and ycz to take 2nd. Nhat eliminated contenders Ralph and Dr Z on his way to loser’s semis where he lost to ycz. HMW was in attendance but lost to ycz for 5th place.

With 40 Melee Singles entrants, Nickel City Smash 10 up in Sudbury Ontario was one of the most hype filled events yet. Shout-outs to Toronto for sending some more players to check our scene out.(EGE|Coffeeblack, Hello, FAKKU!|Coastward and EMG|Nate $) Also North Bay, Orrilia, and Kirkland Lake even all sent a few players to attend and compete. Hype was at its peak when Sudbury’s own Menard caused an upset, beating FAKKU!|Coastward in WQ. Shortly after in WS, top local player Hex beat Hello as well and things were looking good for Sudbury. However EGE|Coffeeblack then however knocked both Menard and Hex into loser’s. In LQ Hello bested FAKKU!|Coastward and the other LQ match Menard edged out the victory against North Bay’s own DPT|Nuisance(who landed himself an impressive 5th place finish). Hello though was on fire playing through losers, then beating both Menard and Hex, as well as taking set 1 of GF over EGE|Coffeeblack. EGE|Coffeeblack was able to clutch out the victory though and claim the #1 spot for the day. Congratulations to everyone and thank you.
