Justice 3 (117 Singles Entrants) – 5/24/2014, Scarsdale, New York
Justice 3 was the second qualifier on the NESS Circuit, which culminates at Mass Madness: CE on August 23rd in Framingham, MA. It also seemed to serve as somewhat of a revival of the tristate scene, with 117 singles entrants. Among those 117 entrants was the familiar face of PC Chris, who entered a tournament for the first time since Apex 2012. The top 5 ended up consisting of some very common tristate names such as VGBC Hax, CTRL The Moon, Swiftbass and CTRL DJ Nintendo, but was shaken up a little bit by two jigglypuffs; SS Soft, the top 8 finisher at Apex 2014 from Georgia, and Dudutsai from New England, who made a great run through the bracket defeating Ryobeat, Apex Reno, MattDotZeb, and Zanguzen before falling to Soft.
Be sure to attend some other NESS circuit events and try to qualify for Mass Madness. It is sure to be one heck of an event.

Smash @ Clarendon Happy Hour (72 Singles Entrants) – 5/23/2014, Arlington, VA
The second event at Clarendon built upon the success of the previous event, bringing in 72 entrants on a Friday night. DoH pulled off a string of upsets on his way to Grand Finals, defeating Vist, DP, and Chillin, while Chu worked some magic to overcome 0-2 deficits vs. both Vist and DP in losers bracket. Grand Finals ended up being a rematch of the previous Clarendon event, with Chu using a combination of Young Link and Marth to once again defeat DoH in two consecutive sets.
The next Clarendon event will be June 6 at 7 pm.

Black Wolf May Monthly (47 Singles Entrants) – 5/25/2014, Spokane, WA
May’s entry in the new Black Wolf monthly series, the largest series in the upcoming Eastern Washington region. Based in Spokane, WA and featuring players carpooling from as far as Seattle and western Montana, Spokane’s Smash scene is exploding with fresh talent and new players. Led by Chip, Eastern Washington’s best player and currently ranked #4 in Washington as a whole under Bladewise, Vish, and Silent Wolf, and with the impressive new Black Wolf venue and BreadnButter Gaming’s professional streaming, Eastern Washington’s players have begun to grow in to their own region and a genuine tournament threat.
This event had a particularly impressive Project M showing, with a greater number of players entering PM singles over Melee (47 compared to 44), a fantastic Melee finale, and a surprising loss to Chip (his first set loss in PM in a Spokane tournament) to Zerxion’s Mewtwo.

Pop Culture Expo (37 Singles Entrants) – 5/25/2014, Wilmington, MA
Coming at the 3rd NESS Circuit Qualifier, Pop Culture Expo was held at the Shriner’s Auditorium and included multiple events throughout the weekend in addition to everything else at the Expo. Setups and games provided by Game Underground and Melee hosted by MattDotZeb.
This is the first time we’ve seen KoreanDJ come out to a NESS Qualifier and he had a very clean sweep of the bracket not dropping a game. Sai, in his 3rd Qualifier, placed 2nd and has racked up qualifier points from every one thus far. MattDotZeb reached 3rd place defeating Nuro along the way but losing 2-0 to Sai in Losers Semis.

Don’t lose the HYPE 3 (32 Singles Entrants) – 5/25/2014, Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil
This is the 3rd Edition of the Brazilian Monthly and Aisengobay took the 1st place again. But this time, he came back from Losers against his brother, Quip!
