The Canadian Arcadian, Vol. 1 (116 Singles Entrants) – 5/17/2014, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
This past weekend featured the first ever Canadian Arcadian, the esteemed unranked tournament series. Hosted by Kirbykaze, Raynex, and the Toronto team at A&C games, 116 entrants came out to prove their mettle. Of those who entered, there were a number of favorites to win, including Frog, Hello, K-OH, and Navatar to name a few. But certainly, no tournament is complete without its silent killers, with MC & Sol Darkness filling those shoes nicely.
Among the best who entered, only two emerged vying for the title of Arcadian Champion: Byron and Trulliam, both repping Kitchener/Waterloo region. In a convincing show of strength, Trulliam’s Falco bested Byron’s Fox to start out Grand Finals 2-0 in his favor. Not one to go out without a fight, Byron brought out his until-then unseen Jigglypuff, and fought hard against Trulliam’s Fox, evening up the set count to 2-2. But it was Trulliam who edged out the win last game on Pokemon Stadium, bringing to a close a set that will be remembered for years to come.

The Smash Academy :: May 18th (76 Singles Entrants) – 5/18/2014, Orlando, FL
This past Sunday, the Florida smash scene came together at The Smash Academy, for its first monthly tournament! We had roughly 100 different smasher between Melee/PM, although many noteable players were missing (Hbox, Plup, RockCrock, Renth). The Smash Academy is the new home for Orlando smash with monthly tournaments and monthly friendlies, where top players come to help coach players for free. The event raised $400 for #SmashTheRecord, the Guinness World Record marathon charity event coming up in August!
Melee doubles brought the hype when CT | Wizzrobe and Gahtzu reset the bracket in GF against SS | Colbol and Gravy, only to lose in game 5 against Colbol/Gravy.
Many upsets occurred, specifically when PI beat VS | PorkChops in pools, and when VS | PorkChops beat Gahtzu in losers finals. Overall for the first tournament being run at this venue, we had a lot of success and cannot wait to see the growth of The Smash Academy.

Smash Studios Presents: Cute Cats 7 (54 Singles Entrants) – 5/17/2014, Atlanta, Georgia
http://i.imgur.com/MUupeGU.jpg
Cute Cats, the Georgia monthly tournament series hosted and streamed by Smash Studios, continues to impress with strong numbers. Melee singles had an impressive 54 entrants with many of them coming from Alabama and Tennessee, including one of the best players in the South in PikaChad. DruggedFox and SS | Flow had an impressive run defeating SS | Nicaboy and SS | Flamin’ Roy in Winners Finals and Grand Finals to win doubles. Going into singles, SS | Nicaboy, SS | Flamin’ Roy, and PikaChad were the clear favorites to win the tournament. Unfortunately for SS | Flamin’ Roy, Samus main OP (ranked 9th in Georgia before the tournament) surprised everyone and defeated SS | Flamin’ Roy in not only pools but also Loser Semifinals to claim 3rd place. His strong play also led to solid victories over DAB (ranked 7th and somebody who has given OP trouble in the past) and Awestruck. PikaChad and SS | Nicaboy met up in Winners Finals with PikaChad able to pull it out in a close set. SS | Nicaboy proceeded to end OP’s great run in Losers Finals and set up the rematch against PikaChad in Grand Finals. PikaChad once again edged out a close set to win Cute Cats 7!

Another week of increased attendance at Game Over with 53 players. Zoso and Nuro had to unfortunately split for 1st due to time constraints, but the rest of the tournament had some great sets.
UMass Boston’s newest member, Klaps, nearly sent MattDotZeb into losers early on in the bracket with a solid Game 1 win and MIT saw their own falco main, Rndl, fight his way up to 7th place.
It’s an exciting time here. The newest players are starting to rise up and improve.
