Northeastern Smash Attack 2 (227 Singles Entrants) – 3/29/2014, Boston, MA

Northeastern Smash Attack 2, or NSA2, just 5 months after NSA1 more than doubled in size and scope. With just 15 out of region players, this was the largest New England smash tournament on the books.
NSA2 now holds the record for largest single-day Melee tournament, something the staff is very happy to boast.
Some big upsets happened, such as Gravy taking a set from the jaws of defeat from Liquid’KoreanDJ. And some extremely exciting moments, including the crowning of the first Melee Games champions. (UMass Boston vs MIT here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WECQFq5dj5k)
Thanks to all that came out and supported NSA. We can’t wait until NSA3!

CEO Prologue: Runback Mountain
Orlando, FL
Hosted by Alex Jebailey and Gaming Knights
Over the past weekend, Gaming Knights organized the Melee/PM tournaments for CEO Prologue. Melee attracted 105 entrants from all over FL and GA, while PM brought 70 signups. Much hype was brought in both Melee and PM. Some notable matches were between past rivals, Plup and SS | Colbol in Melee, with Plup as the victor this time. In PM, Plup over CT | Wizzrobe (Grand Finals, Set 2, Game 5) was a hype match between good friends. Plup took out CT | Wizzrobe earlier in bracket, just leaving Wizzy on a road to redemption back to Grand Finals. Wizzy came out with a stunning 3-0 victory in Set 1, then in Game 5 of Set 2 Wizzy SD’d twice.
In Melee, Plup took the first game over CT | Hungrybox, only to get 4 stocked in the 2nd game, and eventually lose the set in Grand Finals.
Other notable players in PM were Nick Riddle, who took out CT | Hungrybox with his Bowser and Gwabs, whose Diddy Kong ran through many top players, including CT | Hungrybox and GK | Dark Sonic

EXPosure 8 (87 Singles Entrants) – 3/29/2014, Chicago, IL

The EXPosure series is a monthly tournament held in Chicago that attracts many of the Midwest’s top players. This month’s EXP marked the largest tournament attendance thus far, with 87 Melee entrants and 90 PM entrants, despite missing many of the midwest’s top Melee players such as Frootloop, Trail, and Dart. Mew2king also decided to fly in to Chicago on Wednesday to attend and ultimately win the three Chicago tournaments that happened in a five day span (WDW 3/26, EXP8 3/29, Events2Compete 3/30).
(Seeding for this tournament was thrown off because Atma decided to attend the tournament under the tag “Illumina”, and he happened to be placed in Kels’ pool.)

Mayhem (86 Singles Entrants) – 3/29/2014, San Gabriel, CA

Mayhem is a Melee and Project M tourney in SoCal ran by MacD. We had 86 Melee Singles, 76 PM singles, and 130 unique entrants. Melee was streamed on www.twitch.tv/macdsmash and PM was on www.twitch.tv/teamageis. The internet at the venue is a bit shaky, so the streams aren’t perfect, but we are working on it!!
Fly showing his dominance of SoCal post The Next Episode. Fiction put up a good fight, but once again was not able to win a tourney. He did take down Westballz in Losers Finals, which is surprising since Westballz had been winning so many events prior. MacD finally beat Okami for the first time in months, but ended up losing to Fiction immediately after

Midstate Massacre 3 (84 Singles Entrants) – 3/29/2014, Charlotte, NC

We were blown away by the number of entrants and honestly unprepared to run an event of that size. The event even ran over on time and had to relocate to a different building when the original venue closed. It was run far from perfectly but now NC is aware of the boom of players we’ve had and will be better prepared to handle events of this size in the future.

SWEET XVI (70 Singles Entrants) – 3/29/2014, East Lansing, MI

Without Trail and Mango in attendance as some had anticipated, the door opened for an in-state Michigan Smasher to step it up. Vaccine did just that by proving his win over KirbyKaze last month was no fluke, taking the tourney in fairly convincing fashion with a two-set sweep over Duck. Remarkably, this is now the 13th different winner in 16 total installments of the SWEET tournament series in Michigan, after Velynn, Shaeden, Unknown522, Moose, Kels, Teczero, Shady, Mango, Mew2King, VaNz, Duck, and Trail.

Comic Kings Monthly (31 Singles Entrants) – 3/29/2014, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Comic Kings is another fairly big local and evening tournament in the Hampton Roads area in southern Virginia. Lots of new/old faces and hosted by Russ LaParre and the Comic Kings game store owner. Will turn into a monthly tournament according to the owner.
SoVa has had four tournaments in the past three weeks (a record for the local region) and has more tournaments planned in the future. Our next one is going to have a $100 pot bonus if we break 32 entrants which is looking very likely.
