Wavedash Wednesday (32 Singles Entrants) – 2/26/2014, Oak Park, IL

For the PM top 4, both Scythe and Arty had to leave because it was super late so Oro?! took first by default and they split 2nd/3rd. Lazarond stepped up and played an entertaining FGF(Faux Grand Finals) instead.
On the Melee side, snex upset Oro?! early in bracket when Oro?! played Marth against snex’s Jiggs. This only served to set Oro?! into a seething rage, rampaging through losers bracket and killing everyone both literally and metaphorically. In Grand Finals Oro?! reset the bracket against Scythe’s Falcon in a super tight 5 game first set before 3-0ing Scythe’s Fox and Falco to take the win(and Scythe’s kidney).
PM VODs should be up sooner or later at http://www.youtube.com/windycitysmash and http://twitch.tv/windycitysmash

Goast House 12, maybe 13, maybe 7… (60 Singles Entrants) – 3/1/2014, Cleveland, OH

Another great Northeast Ohio Monthly with an insane turnout. Highlights included: Mango and Beer, Vanz winning in GF, and the surprisingly smooth operation of the event. The tournament was described as “fun” and “amazing” but many were let down by the lack of toast provided, though the cookies made up for that.

Game Over (55 Singles Entrants) – 2/25/2014, Boston, MA

150303 Gameover 150303 Gameover2

Although having the lowest turn-out this year for Game Over we’re happy to say that 55 is the lowest for 2014.
This week saw 3 matches of The Melee Games occur – Tufts won their second round vs UConn, MIT beat out Harvard in a close match as opposed to many predictions that thought MIT would demolish Harvard, and Boston University lost in a nail-biter with Northeastern University by 1 stock!
This week also saw KoreanDJ fall in Winners and Grand Finals to Zoso in what seems to be a changing of the crown in New England.

Cute Cats 5 (47 Singles Entrants) – 2/22/2014, Alanta, Georgia

GA’s biggest local series continued to impress with nearly 50 entrants, despite several of the GA’s crew going to Shuffle V. The biggest upsets were definitely SS|Merck besting Baka4Moe in winners only to lose in LF, and SS|S0ft, 7th place at Apex 2014, losing to Pengie and Tubes. Maybe s0ft is the shroomed of Georgia, but one thing is certain, GA’s tournament attendance and level of play is still on the rise.

Hall of Gaming Delta (29 Singles Entrants) – 3/1/2014, Wallingford, CT

Hall of Gaming was originally a bi monthly series that turned monthly and then into biweekly due to the popularity in the local scene. We roughly pull about 30 singles entrants and 8-10 teams each event. We have had appearances from, DJninentdo, Darc, Thorn, Zoso, Tope, Reno, Mattdotzeb, The Moon, Dazwa, Hax, Gmoney, Zhu, Cort and even PC/KDJ back in the day.
It is hosted at a LAN center with a building owner(Felipe Pacheo) who understands the value of a community that wants to be organized, and continue to better itself. Each event has ran smoother and smoother and I cannot be more grateful that Felipe has cooperated with us for such a long time =)
We recently got a dedicated stream setup which we all try to help run. This tourney is DEF not a one man show.(even if it appears that its me running around all of the time) Shououts to MDZ for starting HOG a few years back, giving me the torch and shoutouts to ScubaSteve and the UCONN kids for stepping it up and helping me out with running and streaming.
We hope to bring anyone who comes to our tourneys a great experience and we hope that Zhu had a great time in CT playing smash

SWEET XV (67 Singles Entrants) – 3/1/2014, Ann Arbor, MI

Yu, a top-3 level player from Mexico, was in town on a business trip, having already boasted victory at a previous Michigan local. He faced off in Grand Finals against Trail, the trash-talking Midwest ICs main who was bounced from his last Michigan local in 3rd place. However, this time he avoided Peaches such as Kalamazhu and Hanky Panky and took the tournament with a two-set sweep over Yu.

Thanks for Playing 6 (46 Singles Entrants) – 3/1/2014, Ijamsville, MD

The 6th installment of MD’s Thanks for Playing series brought out a majority of the region’s top talent, resulting in some very exciting matches. Nintendude clutched out the rarely seen ICs ditto for a 2-1 upset over the legendary Chu Dat, only to fall to him 1-2 in the runback in losers semifinals. Chu Dat proceeded to stomp H2YL rival Chillindude 3-1 to advance to grand finals, where Cyrain, hot off a dominant 3-1 performance over Chillin, was hoping to end his losing streak vs. Chu Dat. Despite Cyrain’s stellar effort, Chu Dat capitalized on his mistakes to narrowly win two sets each in the 5th game. Videos are on youtube courtesy of VGBootCamp.

Polybash XIII (77 Singles Entrants) – 3/1/2014, Montreal, Quebec

This tournament is the thirteenth installment of a tournament series hosted at the engineering portion of Université de Montréal, École Polytechnique. The venue is located at the school on top of Mount Royal in Montreal – providing beautiful views of the city at night.

While melee has only been a prominent game at the event in recent years, this particular event received a $500 pot bonus and attracted a rather large crowd.

A rather secluded melee region, Montreal hosts a growing scene with some historically untouchable heavy hitters in Vwins, Bam, Kage, and Lampadaires (Formerly known as pkmvodka). This tournament served as a check up on if the gap has finally been closed. The final results say: not quite yet.
