SWEET XIX (190 Singles Entrants) – 3/14/2015, Ann Arbor, MI

With Kage and Vwins in town, the pressure was on for Michigan to defend its home field. Duck did just that, beating Vwins twice and taking an intense 3-2 set over Kage in winners finals, famously proclaiming that he will never drop another game to Kage again in the future. The 190 Melee Singles entrants at SWEET XIX marks a new one-day tourney record for Michigan.

Hugs won his first big SoCal tourney in who knows how long. Baka4moe was in town visiting some friends and decided to come out. He put in major work to get a 3rd place finish. MacD beat him in winners, but then he tore through losers bracket beating Sung, Ken, Tafokints, & MacD all 2-1, then Kira before finally losing to Lucky.
Some of the vids on youtube are laggy. We didn’t get local recording on them some of the earlier singles vids.

Van Alive 4 (102 Singles Entrants) – 3/22/2015, Vancouver, BC, Canada

The newest tournament series in the PNW, Van Alive, broke the record this weekend as the largest melee tournament ever hosted in BC.
Blunted_Object10 and Sion survived the gauntlet of talent to meet in WF. Sion would forego his falco in favor of a Shiek secondary but BO10’s smart falco play eventually stuffed the shiek. Normally a top 3 finisher at Van Alive, Yakal and his fox would exit winner’s early to eventually settle for a salty 5th after losing to Edge’s aggressive marth.
The tournament’s most exciting sets were from the young Espi and his crispy marth. After getting knocked to loser’s in second round by Noobking, he fought his way through to LQ where he took revenge on the falcon player in a 2-0 set. Espi would opt to play shiek against Edge in LS. This would end in a loss, but expect big things from Espi at the next Van Alive.
Edge could not break his 3rd place curse and lost against to Sion in LF. In GF Sion surprisingly stuck to his shiek and the counter-pick appeared to work as he handed BO10 his first set loss of the day. The second set, however, would see BO10’s patient and precise falco pick apart Sion’s shiek for the win of BC’s largest ever tournament.

NeoNebulous Saturday Melee #6 (73 Singles Entrants) – 3/21/2015, New York, NY

dizz went a mix of bowser and ICs in pools, netting him a cool 4th seed to barely make it out. he then took a r1 loss in winners to Knut. G$ also lost to T.Webb, making this losers bracket really hard. Vino beat Fiya in pools, and also knocked Smuckers into losers bracket, although the Captain of westchester would go on to have an amazing losers bracket run, including his first win over Vanz, for his second second-place at nebulous in a row. UConn’s own DOOM also showed he is a force to be reckoned with, racking up victories over GP, B-war, and Fiya before finally falling to smuckers. Team Nebs own resident graphic artist NYquil returned from a hiatus from smash strong, beating STKF, Boiko, and Bluntmaster to net himself a cool 9th place.
Make sure to tune in to twitch.tv/sigmelee next week when we’ll have Leffen, as well as tri-state’s finest (including Zhu and Cactuar) to try and defend New York from the Swedish invader.

Black Wolf March (48 Singles Entrants) – 3/21/2015, Spokane, Washington

This tournament, the second largest monthly in Washington, also featured PM 3.5 and Smash 4 with customs, both with around 50 entrants.
Chip has dominated the scene in Eastern Washington for years now, with Alien, who was not in attendance, being the closest competitor. His deadly Marth tore through the bracket, only dropping one game in Grand Finals to Shiny, the up-and-coming Jigglypuff main, getting his best placing at a tournament yet in 2nd.
A huge upset occurred early in the bracket when Zerxion’s Ganon took the set over veteran Fox player Kamaji. Undeterred, Kamaji stepped up his game and defeated locally high ranked players Artifice and Jamnt0ast, only to be stopped in Loser’s Finals by Shiny, placing 3rd.
Expect a ton of potential from this ever-growing scene in the future! If you want to see more, follow at http://www.twitch.tv/breadnbuttergames.
