Fight or Flight (117 Singles Entrants) – 1/31/2015, Eugene, Oregon

Unknown to most people, Oregon has had a competitive melee scene for quite some time. In the past year it has grown exponentially, and Fight or Flight marked the largest Oregon tournament ever with 117 melee singles entrants. Singles and doubles tournaments were run for Melee, PM, and Smash Wii U.

Super Smash Brothers Tournament 10 (93 Singles Entrants) – 2/7/2015, Buford, GA

2nd Tournament of a 6 Tournament series. The winner is being sent to Evo. The Tournament continues to grow every Month. With 93 total entrants we have become one of the largest monthly tournaments in Georgia history. Thank for the continued support from GA, and those of you that have come from out of state!

BOPME 7 (63 Singles Entrants) – 2/7/2015, West Lafayette, IN

The BOPME series has slowly become a reliable monthly series in the Indiana smash scene. Hosted on campus at Purdue University, this tournament saw a big number of entrants compared to other Indiana events. Students, Locals, and out of towners from both Indianapolis and Northwest Indiana duked it out for 1st prize. This tournament saw the return of Midwest legend Tink as he took 1st place in teams (with Trail) and took home 2nd place in singles.

Mount Smash 3 (57 Singles Entrants) – 2/6/2015, Mount Sinai, NY

MountSmash

Mount Sinai’s 1st monthly of 2015 started the year on a strange note. When 2nd seed SL | Spero and Mount Smash 2 champion Zotto were eliminated early, both receiving 9th, it opened up spots for underdogs Gdubs and The Goon to finally prove themselves after months of being placed just outside the top 8. The real story of the tournament however was Sheik main Dr. Lobster not dropping a single game in pools or bracket until Grand Finals where he clutched out and intense 5 game set against longtime rival and Falco main The Dude to win the tournament.

Nickel City Smash 8 (37 SinglesEntrants) – 2/8/2015, Sudbury, Ontario

NCS 8 was another successful Melee and Project M event in Sudbury Ontario. We were lucky enough to have LP|RaynEX, Toast, and 4Serial come all the way up and see what the Northern Ontario Smash scene has to offer. Taking a commanding 1st was LP|RaynEX, however local player Hex landed the 2nd place spot. Rallying back through loser’s after falling to Toast in WS, Hex bested DPT|UnlimitedBaconn, Lahti, and Toast to find himself only losing in Grand Finals. Sudbury’s Melee community is less than a year old, and we’re just getting warmed up.

Salty Smash Saturdays is a new bi-weekly tournament circuit outside of Philadelphia featuring many of the best players in the region. It is run by up and coming TO “Tyrion”. The next Salty Smash Saturdays will be February 21st.

Stock Cancel Gaming Weekly #29 @ DZ Comics (29 Singles Entrants) – 2/8/2015, Moore, Oklahoma

Good Melee turnout for what has been a PM dominated state for a while. Melee is gaining more popularity around these parts. New faces and old players coming back into the scene to play. 1st place was a melee veteran who was considered one of the top players of the state, but was given a run for his money by Schythed, an up and coming Ganondorf main who reset the GF bracket and ended up losing in the second set when Schythed forced Hazygoose off his secondaries and onto his main (Sheik). Hazy won the first two games in Set 2 of GF Sheik and switched to Falco assuming he had the set in the bag, but Schythed suprised him with a pocket Jiggs and a 3 stock comeback but lost the set in the end. New blood is definitely in the mix. Schythed took out solid players such as Dyl, Irish, Pay $, Rasta in order to make it to grand finals. Irish had notable tournament placing, playing better than he had been of late. Dyl was a high seed expected to place highly. Overall a fun, friendly event.

Smash of the Seven Seas (28 Singles Entrants) – 2/8/2015, West Windsor, New Jersey

A tournament for charity hosted in the local school, West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South. Entry was open to all of the district’s alumni and students. Proceeds benefited the Cherry Tree Club. A second iteration of the tournament will take place in the spring.

Come for the Smash, Stay for the Salt (10 Singles Entrants) – 2/7/2015, Bradford, Pa

Bradford’s weekly Smash tournament has been going on for a few months now and is still going strong. :^), one of the strongest players across all Smash games in Bradford, was upset Round 2 by Wes, a Zero Suit Samus player. Flying Turtle had a head of steam going into Winner’s Finals, 2-0 every opponent up till that point, but Young Bounce Pass continues his dominance on Smash 4, 3-0 him and only dropping a single stock in the process. :^) went into losers determined, and ended up in Grand Finals against Young Bounce Pass, only to get 3-0.

Super Smash Brothers 64 (1)

Apex 2015 (120 Singles Entrants) – 2/1/2015, Somerset, NJ

Apex is traditionally the American international tournament for SSB64. While Isai and Japanese players were absent this year, the top-8 featured a remarkable showcase of talent including two players from Mexico, Mariguas and Dext3r. The trio of Yoshi mains, Wizzrobe, tacos, and Fireblaster, put on a clinic with stunning combos and movement inspiring the community to re-evaluate Yoshi’s position on the tier list, while LD (under the alias TR3G | Fox) demonstrated that Fox is still extremely deadly in a Dreamland-based ruleset. SuPeRbOoMfAn lived up to expectations by winning the tournament, but the gap between him and the rest of the field was smaller than anticipated with Wizzrobe and tacos keeping each game close, even taking several games.
