PGH vs NEOH Unranked Crew Battle
Eight of Pittsburgh’s finest Amateurs are ready to face off against eight of Northeastern Ohio’s finest Amateurs. While PGH and NEOH have always been considered close in skill at the top level, PGH has been considered to be a much stronger region as a whole. However, there are several strong up and coming NEOH players looking to take down their rival region, and thus it’ll be an exciting crew battle to watch. The PGH vs NEOH Amateur Crew Battle is scheduled to start at 10:30am.
Pro/Am Teams
Kofi and Green Ranger’s Yoshi and Donkey Kong team is sure to turn some heads!
The only Doubles event at the Arcadian will be Pro/Am teams, and it’s sure to be an extremely fun event. Each Pro in the Invitational bracket will draft someone from a pool of unranked players to team with. Certain players picked long time teammates, other players picked up-and-coming amateurs, and others picked purely for fun. Notable teams to watch for include the Yoshi/Donkey Kong team of Kofi and Green Ranger and the double Pichu team of Chaos “Pichu Kid” Midwest and Borp. The Pro/Am teams bracket will start at 11:00am, with the full bracket is available here.
Arcadian Bracket
The main goal of an Arcadian is to show off just how good a region is even outside of its top players, and PGH/NEOH is a surprisingly deep region. While perhaps not known as well nationally as the Power Ranked players, PGH/NEOH is home to a wide plethora of solid, unique players. Four top contenders for the Arcadian are Kofi, Mordicon, Eggnawg, and Slarti.
Kofi is a unique Yoshi main who goes to the University of Pittsburgh. Despite being ranked 15th on the last PGH Power Rankings, the cutoff for the Pro Bracket was Top 10, and thus Kofi is allowed to enter into the Arcadian. Kofi utilizes Yoshi’s strong punish game to deliver impressive combos. His Yoshi has done extremely well against Pittsburgh’s Top Players, including taking several sets over Borp and even taking Abate to Game 5. However, Kofi also has some questionable losses to unranked players, and so victory at the Arcadian is not guaranteed for the Yoshi main. Will the Arcadian be a good or bad day for Kofi?
Mordicon is a strong Marth main who studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Hailing from Michigan, Mordicon has improved dramatically in preparation for the Arcadian. At the few most recent Pittsburgh weekly tournaments, Mordicon has defeated Stro, The Lake, and PGH Carroll. Mordicon has improved enough to beat several PR players, but does he have what it takes to win the Arcadian?
Eggnawg is an impressive Sheik main who studies at Ohio University. Nawg hasn’t shown up to many events in PGH/NEOH, but when he does show up, he performs extremely well. He boasts set wins over Power Ranked players like Genghis Connor and holds a strong record against other unranked players. Eggnawg has a dominant lead over the Ohio University scene, but will this dominance extend into PGH/NEOH?
Slarti is a defensive Peach main from Northeastern Ohio. Slarti is considered one of NEOH’s best unranked players, and his punish game with Peach is terrifying. Can Slarti make NEOH proud at the Arcadian and take home the gold?
There’s also a plethora of other unique players from PGH/NEOH going to the Arcadian. Make sure to tune into the Arcadian to see their skill!
Invitational Bracket
However, the PGH/NEOH Arcadian + Invitational’s purpose isn’t only to represent unranked players. There’s also an Invitational bracket featuring all of PGH/NEOH’s current Power Ranked players! Top players entered into the Invitational include Abate, 4%, and Silent Swag.
Abate is considered to be the best player attending the Arcadian. Recently ranking 33rd on the 2o15 SSBM Rank, Abate is certainly the highest ranked player there. However, in region, Abate has had several close sets. He has a consistent losing record against SilentSwag, and Abate is often even forced to use Falco instead of his Luigi against SilentSwag. The Pro Bracket will be nowhere near a free win for Abate.
4% is a Puff main from Northeast Ohio. While not too many people are familiar with 4%, he performed extremely well in 2015, taking sets off MacD, KJH, and Prince Abu. Some even consider 4% the second best Puff in the world. Although he hasn’t played Abate recently, 4% dominates NEOH and won the last time he played SilentSwag. A win at the Invitational would help cement 4% as one of the best in the world.
SilentSwag is considered a hidden boss. Despite doing well at the nationals he has attended, he simply wasn’t known well enough last year to be placed onto the 2015 SSBM Rank. SilentSwag has an exceptional record in region, being undefeated against Abate in the last few months and splitting sets with 4%. The Invitational may finally put SilentSwag on the national map.
There will also be nearly all of PGH and NEOH’s Power Ranked players at the Invitational + Arcadian. Make sure to watch for Vudujin’s spectacular Luigi, PGH Carroll’s stylish Fox and Peach, the no tech skill Borp, and several of the mid tier heroes from Pittsburgh. Also, expect top level non-esports commentary from great commentators like PGH Carroll and the commentary god Pharaoh.
The PGH/NEOH Invitational + Arcadian will be an extremely fun and interesting event to watch and to compete. Take a break from PAX Arena’s Pools matches to tune into the Invitational + Arcadian; you won’t be disappointed!
