The release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is upon us! By the end of this week, the console version of the new Super Smash Bros. will be on North American shelves. Let’s dive right into the news, since we don’t have much time!
The News
Sales totals have confirmed that Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS has become the 10th Nintendo 3DS game to sell 1 million units in the United States. The game has exceeded 1.2 million units combined over digital and physical copies, making it the best-selling hand-held game of 2014, as well.
Smash players who frequent online modes like For Glory 1v1 have often found themselves at the mercy of the boxing champion Little Mac, so much so that he has become a menace in the eyes of the average player. However, according to Smash Bros. creator and designer Masahiro Sakurai, Little Mac may not be toned down in future balance patches because, as it turns out, Little Mac isn’t as dominating as people have led themselves to believe.
Drawing from online player statistics, Little Mac apparently has the lowest win ratio out of the entire roster. Sakurai is convinced that the character’s high technical barrier and low margin of error are overwhelming for newer and casual players who may pick him up thinking they can get the easy win to his strength. In combination with his lackluster recovery options, Little Mac seems to be one of the hardest characters to use successfully.
A young girl named Karissa may not have actually trumped top players in Smash Wii U, but she certainly earned her title of “Karissa the Destroyer” after the drama she stirred up in the Smash community. Players found that the hype discovery of a young Smash prodigy was nothing more than a marketing scheme by the Gamestop in West Hollywood, CA that held the event.
A video was being planned in hopes of gaining viral status, but the event was caught by the cellphone of someone in the crowd at the event. As Internet users examined the evidence and scoured for more, stories detailing the event eventually found their way to the public eye.
We found that Karissa is a professional child actor. And, currently, it is unknown who was controlling Karissa’s characters as she played at the event.
Smash Bros./League of Legends player and caster Sky Williams announced an exciting event this past weekend to celebrate the North American release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on November 21st. Sky has invited a long list of Smashers out to his California home to take part in the stream event, which kicks off on November 20th at 9:00 PM PST, including NAKAT, Nairo, Mr. R, Trela, FOW, and many more.
The event will lead into several days of Smash Wii U play, followed by the launch of Sky’s week-long Smash stream featuring Sky, D1, and a lot of Smash Bros.!

The Tweets
Over the week, Smash caster and community leader Prog took to Twitter to discuss local scene building and contributing to your region’s competitive community.
When it comes to scene building, a lot of people look for solutions elsewhere, and that’s not correct in my eyes.

You don’t look for solutions, you look for guidance. Your local scene differs from the scene a state away.

Your game differs from every other game. Tailor your ideas, don’t copy and paste.

That said, I don’t think tri-state realizes how much Eggm did back in that era. I mean, 6 TVs to every event?

I was watching a UMVC3 set Viscant was commentating on, and he noted that there are a dearth of places to watch high level Marvel regularly.

I know looking at Smash, there are some places where people don’t hold tournaments, let alone stream. Be that person to step up.

We’ll see you next time, be sure to enjoy the release of Smash on Wii U!
