After Japan’s Umebura #9 clocked in with 192 unique entrants in their Smash 3DS event last week, a flood of Smash 3DS events saturated the United States in the past seven days. Dedicated Smashers are valiantly pushing through despite the limitations of the 3DS, and although Smash 4 will truly be realized on the Wii U later this year, the new game is already being pushed to its limits in its current form. In this week’s installment, we’ve got a ton of Smash 3DS tournament results for you alongside a few tidbits of Wii U news to keep your hunger for console Smash satisfied.

Sakurai’s weekday picture updates have continued since the release of Smash 3DS, hopping us up on new info regarding strictly the upcoming Wii U iteration. Midweek, Sakurai revealed two new modes for Smash Wii U involving Master Hand and Crazy Hand. Categorized with the Solo modes, portions of the modes’ titles have been blurred out. However, many speculate that these modes are the “Master Order” and “Crazy Order” modes hinted at by mined sound files found on the 3DS cartridge.

Amazon accidentally stirred the pot when it updated its description of Smash Bros. for Wii U, unknowingly revealing information within the text that has not yet been revealed officially by Nintendo. The description mentions “challenges crafted by Master Hand and Crazy Hand,” undoubtedly the two new modes partially revealed in the aforementioned Picture of the Day. Further, the Wii U version will include a multiplayer board game mode to distract from the intense Versus bouts.

This week, as it turns out, was rather light on news. Instead, weekday and weekend tournaments stormed the field at local venues across the states.

ClashTournaments’s Vex, clobbering opponents with heavy-hitters Bowser and King Dedede, took home the gold at Smash Forward 01, a Smash 3DS singles event in Philadelphia, PA, that featured a 16-man swiss bracket finalized with a 4-man, single-elimination playoff. Atomsk’s Little Mac took the top spot in swiss only to fall in Vex in Grand Finals in three matches, while CT Chibo took 3rd place in a Bronze Match against Nyani’s Mario.

Also in Atlantic North, FS LoF Nakat took the top spots at both HTL #1 and RingSide Rumble at Hitbox Arena in New Jersey. Familiar faces like Orion, Dapuffster, and even FS Nairo could not hold off Nakat’s Ness nor his Fox. Though not present for RingSide Rumble, Nairo’s appearance at HTL #1 netted him a second-place finish with Robin and Zelda, two characters he has defiantly stuck with since the beginning of Smash 3DS competitions.

TourneyLocator continued its weekly Smash 3DS tournament series Shockwave with its 4th event, in which TourneyLocator’s own Denti once again took 1st place with Sheik, toppling frequent runner-up Bwett and his Little Mac in a full, five-game Grand Final. While the replays haven’t been uploaded yet, you can check out the broadcast at TourneyLocator’s Twitch channel.

Meanwhile, both Overswarm’s second house tournament and Ori_Bro’s Ann Arbor, Michigan events featured not only Smash 3DS singles, but doubles as well. At Overswarm’s House Tournament 2, Kero’s Greninja water shuriken’d to the top spot over Katakiri’s Mii Gunner and Sonic, though he couldn’t manage anything above last place with Amida in doubles. Instead, Overswarm and Kel’s Bowser / Megaman duo took the five-team doubles bracket.

And in Ann Arbor, When Smash 4 Wii U??? drew 14 entrants and 7 teams for Smash 3DS. Zinoto’s experienced Diddy Kong was no match for Rayquaza’s Bowser and Rosalina. Zinoto and Rayquaza were joined in the 4-man top cut by ****s and Ksev. Zinoto took first in doubles, as well, alongside Xatic’s King Dedede with a victory over Ori_Bro and Rayquaza’s Sheik / Wario team.
