Hello, MattDotZeb here. I am pleased to announce that today The Melee Games has opened it’s registration for the coming season. Our team has been working hard to bring you the best TMG season we can. There have been some format changes to the league that previous participants will notice as well, so keep an eye out for those. You can register now on Smash.gg/TMG!
What is TMG?
TMG is a league that I started in January of 2014 as a way for New England players to meet other people at their university and involve themselves in the smash community. It was a simple idea, to just run single elimination bracket with 10 schools playing crew battles over the course of a few months.
The league has been well received and ever since then we’ve grown it with each season. Adding in Tri-state in Fall 2014, then Ontario, California, and Mid-Atlantic states in Spring 2015, and then the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, Southwest, and Atlantic South in Fall 2015.
It’s been a labor of love for the TMG team and highly demanding of all of us on the team. We decided to take things a bit more on the relaxed route in Spring 2016 where we didn’t expand or run a national season. This was to give us all some breathing room and focus on making the Fall 2016 season the best we can make it. Even still, in the Spring we had 225 schools meet the participation requirement of 5 players signed up and play in regional rounds.
Rules, Format & New Locations
- 5 vs 5 crew battles.
- Play at Regional Qualifier events (listed in registration), advance to Regional Finals, from there it’s to Divisional rounds, to Conference rounds, to National rounds.
- Operates from August 2016 to May 2017.
- Entry to the league is $100 per school. This provides entry to the Fall and Spring season. TMG is owned by Big Blue Esports, a company others and I founded over a year ago. This money isn’t going into anyone’s sock drawer or personal bank account and will only be used for investing into the league and the schools within it.
- The fall season will count toward the national bracket which will span the duration of fall and spring. In the spring we will run another round of regional qualifiers will only count toward regional finals and in some cases divisional rounds.
- Alumni are not eligible to participate. Students that graduate in the fall/winter are not eligible to participate after graduation. Grad students are eligible to participate.
- Quebec, Montana, Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana schools are now able to participate in TMG.
That’s only a quick list. You can read more at smash.gg/tmg/rules.
It brings us the greatest pleasure to give to you, the community, TMG. Thank you and you good luck.
