Summary
Being a competitive Melee player in 2015 is harder than ever. With each and every major tournament, players are stepping up their game and it can be easy to be left behind. Bracket placements are no longer free, and each set of Melee being played is of significantly higher caliber than it was even two years ago.
In this environment, Alliance’s Adam “Armada” Lindgren has been the model for 2015: this year will be the sixth straight in which he has not dropped a competitive set to a non-Top 6 player. In fact, few players have even come close – in the past 12 months, he has dropped only 13 serious tournament games to players ranked lower than sixth. Let there be no doubt, Armada is currently the best player in the world at Super Smash Bros Melee.
His resume for 2015 is nothing short of phenomenal: he won the year’s two largest tournaments, EVO 2015 and The Big House 5, as well as 11 other major tournaments, including Eclipse, Smash Summit, MVG Sandstorm, I’m Not Yelling!, Heir II The Throne, and Dreamhack London; he looked virtually unstoppable from EVO 2015 in July until Dreamhack Winter in late November, racking up 7 major tournament wins in a row before his streak was ended by Hungrybox; and he has a winning record on the year against every player on the SSBMRank Top 100 whom he played at least one tournament set against.
Perhaps most impressively, Armada did all of this while picking up a new character — he finally started playing Fox in tournament in 2015, and he’s already the best Fox player that dual-mains the character. His unstoppable punishes, ironclad edgeguarding, technical prowess, sleek neutral game, and overall consistency and proficiency with both Peach and Fox have made him definitively the world’s best player and a model for the fantastic play Melee will enjoy in years to come. It’s up to the rest of us, it seems, to catch up to him.

1/8/2016 – SSBMRank Recap

SSBMRank is a big undertaking every year. We could have not done this without the help of HTC, who generously helped us out with this year’s production values. Nick, Darkdragoon, was a workhorse with the formatting and the graphics this year as well. We also had countless volunteers that helped out with numerous tasks.
