Summary
|
||||
“Everyone loves seeing Mew2King play well because, in so many ways, Mew2King is Smash Brothers.” That is what commentator Kris “Toph” Aldenderfer had to say about Jason “Mew2King” Zimmerman’s importance to the Smash community at Paragon Los Angeles earlier this year in September.
2015 has been a tough year for Mew2King. Suffering from crippling pain from years of playing Smash without taking care of his hands, he dropped out of EVO 2015 and didn’t enter several other large tournaments. When he was playing, often through the pain, his results were a mixed bag. He began the year with a bang, taking 2nd place at Paragon Orlando after defeating Axe, Plup, and Leffen. He then entered a slump where he placed rather disappointingly at nationals, including a 9th place at Apex 2015 where he sustained a loss to Shroomed in a Sheik ditto. He forfeited from MVG Sandstorm in April and finished 7th at Press Start in May, losing to Leffen and Hungrybox.
Mew2King’s 2015 was looking grim until PAX Prime in August, where a large pot bonus provided by Twitch attracted many top players including Westballz, MacD, Nintendude, Hugs, Zhu, and Cactuar. Leffen, who was on a tournament-winning rampage over the summer and had beaten Mew2King in five straight sets between February and August, was also in attendance. In a shocking turn of events, Mew2King 6-0’d Leffen across Winners’ Finals and Grand Finals, taking games with all three of his mains.
He went on to an electrifying 2nd place performance at Paragon Los Angeles, defeating Leffen again and winning a tense Loser’s Finals set against Hungrybox. He continued to 3rd place finishes at both The Big House 5 and Smash Summit, winning convincingly over Mango at both tournaments. Mew2King may not have ended 2015 at the top of SSBMRank, but his year was one hell of a journey. He proved Toph right many times, and his love and passion for the game continue to remind us why we play it. We look forward to whatever he can offer in the coming year, and please, Jason, go see a doctor.

Has he really not seen a doctor yet?
Minor complaint but in the panelists Zhu is listed as from tristate, which he isnt, Pennsylvania is not tristate
Go to the doctor.
M2K below mango FailFish West Coast It On Me 4Head
lol m2k
Really wish we had got to see M2k vs PP this year it would have been a great set
I feel as if M2K is phenominal at beating those who are a little bit worse than him but struggles against the gods. He’s like a gatekeeper of sorts.

I can;t see an argument for M2k over PP other than inactivity
He does better against the top 10 than Leffen/Mango and has had way more top 20/25 level wins

why is there an asterisk by plup’s one win?
M2k was playing Pichu if Memory serves. So… asterisk.

I really hope M2K comes back this year, I want to see him be 1st. If he went to the doctor and stopped putting up mind blocks I really think he could be at leasr top 3.
[…] His reign over the competitive scene from late 2007 to early 2008 is considered by many to be the one of the most dominant reigns by any Melee player in history. Despite having one of the shortest dominant periods over the competitive scene, his accomplishments during that time can’t go unnoticed. In singles, Mew2King won 16 out of 20 tournaments starting from EVO West 2007, and, nine years later, he still manages to consistently make top 8 at major tournaments to this day. In regional tournaments, M2K is usually seen as a favorite to take the entire thing, and is still considered a top 5 Melee player in the world according to the Melee It On Me rankings (http://www.meleeitonme.com/ssbmrank2015p17/).
