Update: SolidJake has confirmed that Republic of Fighters has been changed to a 5000 pt qualifier. The predictions have been changed to reflect the news.
Current Standings
We are officially over half way through the MLG Qualifiers. To recap, the qualifiers will determine 12 out of 16 slots for the final bracket at MLG Anaheim. Winning a qualifier will automatically place you in the Top 16. Also, earning qualifier points can also place a player in the final bracket. The remaining 4 slots will be reserved to the players who make it out of the dreaded open bracket at MLG Anaheim. Over the last weekend, MIOM|Mang0 claimed a victory at Whobo in Texas and Remen surprised many, winning Sumabato, the Japanese qualifier.
So far, our guaranteed finalists include:
MIOM | Mang0 (Whobo)
CT EMP|Mew2king (Shuffle V, Fighters’ Edge)
Remen (Sumabato DX Melee 11)
Curse.Hungrybox (CEO Prologue)
With Mew2King winning 2 events and 4 qualifiers left, up to 4 more slots can be taken by winning a qualifier and the rest of the slots will default to the remaining players with the most points. Who will claim the 8 remaining guaranteed slots?
The current standings can be found here (courtesy of “notBob-“ on Reddit).

Predictions
With SKTAR being a 5000 pt qualifier, there is still lots of room for people to gain several points to get into the final bracket. A top 16 finish at SKTAR nets more points than a 3rd place finish at a normal qualifier. However, as a trade-off, SKTAR will also feature 4 of the Gods (Mango, Mew2king, Dr. PeePee, and Armada), so placing high will be extraordinarily difficult. I predict that roughly 2000 pts will be needed. Looking at the current point standings and what’s ahead, here are my predictions.
Already Qualified
1. Mango
2. Hungrybox
3. Mew2king
4. Remen
The remaining eight
5. Armada (Current Standing: 0 pts)– He’s going to be at Republic of Fighters 3 and SKTAR3. In the unlikely case that Armada doesn’t win either of these, he should have enough points with a 2nd place finish at Republic of Fighters 3 and at least a 5th place finish at SKTAR3 to claim a spot
6. VGBC|Dr. PeePee (Current Standing: 0 pts) –Although he has yet to make an appearance at a qualifier, I can’t imagine him getting less than 3rd at SKTAR, which would net him 2200 points at least. However, it is still a risk to claim that Dr. PeePee is guaranteed a spot. A 4th or 5th place finish may not give him enough points to qualify.
7. SS|S0ft (Current Standing: 1640 pts) – It’s very evident that s0ft is doing everything in his power to qualify, already attending three MLG qualifiers and going to at least 2 more. He currently stands in the lead for points and will probably need at least 400-600 more by the end of the season.
8. VGBC|Hax (Current Standing: 1200 pts) – After a strong 2nd place finish at Whobo, Hax has put himself in great position to qualify. He is going to attend Get On My Level and SKTAR3 and will probably net at least1500 points by the end of the season.
9. *Insert West Coast Player Here* (Current Standing: 0 pts) – This is honestly way too hard to predict, but this slot goes to whoever will win the gauntlet that is Pat’s House 3. If Mew2King ends up going to Pat’s house, then we can probably eliminate this
10. CTRL|The Moon (Current Standing: 880 pts) – A top 12 performance at SKTAR will put The Moon at 1980 points, which may be enough to qualify. He’s only going to SKTAR, so everything rides on whether he can perform adequately well at a very stacked tournament.
11. Leffen (Current Standings: 0 pts)– With the recent changes to Republic of Fighters, a top 3 performance at this 5k qualifier should get him a spot.
12. Ice (Current Standings: 0 pts) – The change to Republic of Fighters will probably benefit Ice the most out of anyone. With a top 3 finish, he’ll be at 2200 points and nail a slot into the bracket.
Other considerations:
1. CT|Zero (Current Standing: 1400 pts) – Zero has been a fiend, traveling to three qualifiers already. He will potentially go to Pat’s House and SKTAR and probably needs around 600 points between the two to get in. It’s still highly questionable, but he’s been playing Melee quite a bit lately and improving at a phenomenal rate.
2. Westballz – This will depend on whether he actually attends GOML and SKTAR 3. If he attends those and Pat’s House 3, he can easily get 2000+ pts with some solid performances.
Not Enough
1. SS Flow (Current Standing: 1480 pts) – As far as I’ve heard, he’s no longer going to any more qualfiiers
2. Plup (Current Standing: 1200 pts) – Similarly, Plup seems to be done with attending events.
3. Curse.Chillin (Current Standing: 0 pts) – Chillin does have a shot at qualifying via points by attending GOML and SKTAR, but these tournaments are really stacked. Chillin will need to pull off amazing runs at both to catch up.
4. Nintendude (Current Standing : 720 pts) – With the recent changes to Republic of Fighters, Nintendude will need an amazing performance at SKTAR to get a spot. It’s possible, but unlikely
MIOM|Tafokints
Someone might have told me that RoF is going to be a 5000p Qualifier, this will change the situation for Leffen and Armada a bit. Also don’t rule out Ice yet.
SolidJake confirmed this on Twitter.
I’m real happy for you, and I’mma let you finish, but AGC | Axe will have the greatest run of all time at Pat’s House 2. OF ALL TIME.
