I’m here to address the latter. There will be a way to raise the Melee Singles cap, but it will take a collective community effort, which I’m going to call “The Big House Compendium” at the moment. More details about this will be announced next week.
Let me explain why this is the case. Since the initial planning stages, my TO staff and I have put together a pools schedule, equipment inventory, and floor plan that accommodated up to 1024 Melee Singles entrants at TBH5. We do have the space and time to expand, but for us to re-work the tourney structure to scale to a higher entrants cap, we need a considerable increase in event resources and manpower. That’s where we hope the community can help cover that cost.
Of course, I don’t expect contributions without something extra in return. All donors will be rewarded with different levels of individual content, and even unlockable spectator content as we reach stretch goals. Anyone, either player or spectator, will be able to contribute towards these stretch goals. Help us help you participate in one of the biggest Smash tourneys of all-time. Since it will take a few days to gather all the information, look for an announcement next week with more details on how this will all go down. I promise you will like it.
The Big House 5 is currently the 3rd-biggest Melee tournament of all-time, ahead of Evo 2014 (970 entrants) and behind Apex 2015 (1037 entrants).Registration for Melee Singles will tentatively open again when the corresponding Big House Compendium goal has been reached. Details to be announced next week.
Registration for Melee Doubles is closed, as its cap of 512 entrants has also been reached.
Registration for Wii U Singles and Wii U Doubles is still open today, as the cap has not been reached for either event.
If you’re as excited about The Big House 5 as I am, join the social media discussion! This year’s installment is set to take place on October 2-4, 2015 in Dearborn, MI.
Hello, this is SupaDragonYoshi and I want to know how can I help the venue during the tourney. I barely missed the chance to enter Melee Singles so I hope there will be a way the cap could be raised. I also have a small CRT to bring(It’s slightly less than 15 inches across the diagonal but I have been bringing it to tourneys for awhile).
