Following the success of April’s tournament, the Salvadorean community gets ready to host a full fledged Smash event. The Fierce Invitational Smash Tournament is the community’s effort to bring together players from all over the region, with international players already signed up and ready to travel to El Salvador on October 18th.

Elvin Flores, well known T.O. in the region, and his team have been planning for months the event. “This will be the first of -hopefully- many El Salvador based events. We wanted to provide the ground for players from all over the region to come together,” said Flores, “we give a lot of value to making bonds between international communities and exposing players to challenges from outside their local rivals.”

The event being held in El Salvador’s most important convention center, has gathered the attention from the international community. Carlos “Bubu” Osorno, Nicaraguan Melee champ and runner up from last international event, has set his eyes on the prize. “I’ve been training hard for this event. Last time tournament nerves got in the way I was bested by Adam, who is an amazing player. This year I have my eyes on the prize”, said Osorno. “It’s a great thing, being able to see new places and meet new people through smash.”

The Salvadorean community is pushing forward and trying to make a breakthrough in the international scene. Just this past July, local champion Fernando “Luisfer” Orellana, had the opportunity to travel to EVO with three other competitors from El Salvador. “The EVO experience was amazing,” said Orellana, “it really opens your eyes to the level of dedication and skill that is out there. I really wish we could get more players out to big events. FIST is the community’s effort to provide all smashers with that experience.”

FIST will be holding singles and doubles both for Melee and Smash 4 as their main events, but will also cater to those yearning for 64, Brawl and PM with side events. Flores adds “The growth of the community is our real challenge here. Finding ways for people to break from casual to competitive gaming. The love for the games is out there, we just need to provide a space for smashers to measure up against each other. We hope that in following years we can see the region grow as a whole, and have important international players visit us.”

You can learn more about the event on their facebook page and their blog (Spanish).
