1009 days.

November 18th, 2012.

Based on the actions of that night, the entire scope of Melee, and well, Smash, was changed.  I’ll spare you guys the full historical breakdown, but because of that night, myself, Scar and Cactuar decided that we needed […]

Glenn “gyt” Cravens and Collecting Smash History

By |May 15, 2014|Default, Prog Blog|2 Comments

Prog here. So, in the course of my time in Smash and other fighters, I’ve seen a lot of people whose work needs to be exalted. Glenn Cravens, known to many as “the stats guy,” has been a long time supporter of competitive gaming and has left his footprint on the Smash scene as well. Glenn, I have the honor of chatting with you and discussing something that I personally can’t wait for.

The Bounty: Option Selects

By |May 12, 2014|Default, Prog Blog|1 Comment

Hey all, prog here. Well, I’ve written a couple of pieces here to get people involved in their local scenes and how to branch out. Well, if there’s one thing I really enjoy, its making people search for things, to […]

Don’t give up yet!

By |April 21, 2014|Prog Blog|13 Comments

It isn’t a secret that doubles has fallen to the wayside in the Melee community. We often hear from a lot of players that they don’t like it, it’s too difficult, it’s something they never learned, etc. Tournament Organizers say it’s a question mark, or it interferes with other brackets.  Streamers say that it kills their numbers.

Where did doubles go wrong?

What can I do?

By |April 4, 2014|Prog Blog, Team Blogs|4 Comments

So, one thing I’ve noticed a lot recently is a lot of people building their local scenes. And what stands out to me is the same question being asked over and over again, which is one that I love hearing.
“What can I do to help?”

If you are going to give an MVP award to any one individual for their contributions to the SSBM scene outside of play, in my opinion, the winner is easy: HMW.
Why? Of course, looking back, there were “dark ages” between the golden age that we revere and the platinum age that we’re currently in. He did some of the big stuff for scene growth, such as…

Am I Ready?

By |March 20, 2014|Prog Blog, Team Blogs|0 Comments

“Am I ready?”

I asked myself that back in 2007.

My answer to myself was a resounding “no.”

I’d been playing for a year, maybe a bit more.  I wasn’t confident at all in my abilities.  I went to locals just to play friendlies, maybe enter doubles.  But singles?  With the tri-state region during that era?  I just wanted to get better first, then start taking my lumps and face off against people I admired, learned from and wanted to play against.

MLG was on the way.  Later EVO.  These were players I had been watching USA Network on every Saturday morning for a glimpse of Melee action.  These were players I had been studying on the DC++ hub.  I’m not in their league, not even close.  I’m not ready yet.

Time passed.  Finally.  I was ready.

And then everything was gone.  EVO and MLG weren’t carrying Melee anymore.
