Happy Anniversary – A Look Back at MLG Chicago 2004

By |June 18, 2014|Default|0 Comments

Melee returns to Major League Gaming’s pro tour on June 20th –  just a few short days from now. This is particularly significant to Melee veterans because June 19th, just a day before the event kicks off, is actually the 10-year anniversary of Melee’s first event at MLG. This week not only marks the triumphant return of the greatest fighting game in the world to the MLG’s big stage, but also the anniversary of the beginning of the “Golden Age” of Smash. So let’s take a quick look back at how Melee first made its mark in the world of professional gaming as we celebrate the brilliant milestones ahead.

Why PPMD will win MLG Anaheim by Charles Bullock

By |June 18, 2014|Default|4 Comments

The argument for PPMD’s chances of winning MLG is a tired one—a boring one, even. Just in case the device with which you’re accessing MIOM’s page is the underside of a rock, though, here’s a newsflash for you: he won Apex 2014. He won SKTAR 3. He won TO9, too, for what that’s worth. He did it from winner’s side, every time, and he never dropped more than a game in a set—often, not even that. There were four-stocks and JV’s, and (perhaps more importantly) closer matches where he fought long wars of attrition and didn’t lose control for a second.

SSBM Rank Top 25 (15-11)

By |June 18, 2014|Default|0 Comments

What is SSBMTop25 Rank?

SSBMTop25 is a compiled list of best players based on a collective panel of people in the community. It is aimed to give a heads up to people who have been performing well in the first half of 2014 and have momentum going into this summer’s major tournaments such as MLG, CEO, and Evo. The other objective is to give the greater audience an idea of who to watch out for as the tournament progresses.

How did the voting work?

There were roughly 35 people who voted on a list of players. Each voter gave a list of their top 25 players. A 1st place vote will net a player 25 points. A 2nd place vote will net a player 24 points, etc… and a 25th place vote will net 1 point. The overall top 25 is determined based on who accumulated the most points between all the panelist votes. The voting was done prior to Super SWEET and the most recent SSS.

Tonight, we have 15-11

Why Mew2King will win MLG Anaheim by MIOM|Tafokints

By |June 17, 2014|Default|0 Comments

There was a once a time in which Mew2King and mental blocks went hand in hand. After Pound 3, Mew2King could not handle Mang0 or Jigglypuff. Hungrybox had his number for years and, for some reason, Armada seemed to get the better end of him in close sets. Yet over the past year, Mew2King has impressively overcome his inner demons to take sets over Mango, Hungrybox, and even Armada, clutching out a set at SKTAR 3. It’s safe to say that the king has returned, but let’s explore this further.

Why Armada will win MLG Anaheim by DoH

Execution:

Many have described Armada as the European Mew2King. Historically he has been incredibly precise, with vicious edgeguards, a devastating punish game, and impeccable defense. In a metagame heavily dominated by space animals, this will allow him to plow through the competition much easier, since as a Peach main, the fast fallers can’t really do the same thing to him. Armada also has incredible luck with Stitchfaces, which are always a factor.
