2013 SSBM Player Rankings: 11-20

Rank
Joey “Lucky” Aldama
Score

20
Main(s)
Fox
8.436

Region:
SoCal

Tourney Results
49th at EVO 2013

1st at 3x SSS’s

Summary:

Recently beginning to take the game seriously again, Lucky has shown that he hasn’t lost his ability to play by winning three consecutive Super Smash Sunday tournaments (an amazing feat considering the series’ high caliber of players, including S2J, Fiction, Fly Amanita and Westballz). Known to train with MaNg0 and Alex19, Lucky has developed a unique Fox style that is a menace to deal with. He has the ability to pressure his opponents without attacking their shields, often hitting them as they try to escape. With all of his recent hard work, don’t be surprised to see Lucky place top 8 or better at upcoming U.S. nationals.

SSBM Rank: A Mid-Way Follow Up

By |December 19, 2013|Default, SSBMRank|0 Comments

What inspired SSBMRANK?
For the longest time, we haven’t really had a panel to do rankings of SSBM players. We recently had SSBPD, which was great, but had some system flaws and eventually went down. It wasn’t since the days of MLG that we had a group of players assess the ranks of the top players across the nation. I am a huge fan of metrics and statistics and wanted to see something in 2013 while Smash is still huge. At work, I’ve been experimenting with MySQL and HTML. I wanted to implement these skills into side projects and felt that this project would help me become more comfortable with these languages.

Tourney Results
17th at EVO 2013

5th at Zenith 2013

Summary:

DaShizWiz lives in southern Florida and is considered to be one of the best Falco players in the U.S. His original teachers were Lambchops and RockCrock, and he quickly became one of the top players throughout 2008 and 2009 after attending out-of-state events for the first time. Shiz is probably best known for his set with Mew2King at the original Revival of Melee. The video for the fourth match of their losers finals set is one of the most watched competitive Smash matches of all time. Shiz plays a technical Falco and Fox, but prefers to end stocks early and efficiently instead of going for extended combos.

Fox/Marth

Region:

Tourney Results
33rd at Apex 2013

5th at Pound V.5

Summary:

Some think he’s the mysterious Keanu Reaves because of his looks. Others think he’s Morpheus because of his teaching ability. This prickly fella has a deep understanding of how Melee works at a fundamental level. Ask him a question and chances are he’ll give you a wealth of information. When his game is on, Cactuar will make you feel completely helpless against his calculated pressure and unassuming movement. He is famous for taking multiple opponent stocks without even getting touched.

Good to see Cactuar rounding out the top 40. Reppin’ Philly/Tristate! He’s definitely still got it. #ssbmrank

Jesus “Jman” Fernandez

7.413

Region:

Tourney Results
33rd at EVO 2013

Summary:

Once considered to be one of if not the best Fox main in the U.S., Jman’s patient and fundamentally solid playstyle relies heavily on up-smash and lasers. Known to team with Hax, the “Little Rascals” came onto the scene at Pound 3 and made waves. With wins over many top players such as Lucky, MaNg0 and Hax, Jman proved himself to be a strong contender during the 2008-2010 period. Though he has been retired for quite a while, he made an effort to getback into shape for Evolution 2013 and performed very well. Expect amazing things from him in 2014.
