June 2014 Preview

By |June 2, 2014|Default, Juggleblog|2 Comments

Historically, June has been delegated the appetizer month of the summer season, offering a healthy platform for regionals but never quite cementing itself as the go-to month for nationals and internationals. It has produced just one 200+ entrant tourney all-time (Pound 2), while July boasts a massive six 200+ entrant tourneys all-time (MELEE-FC6, OC3, FC-Diamond, Genesis, Genesis 2, EVO 2013). Furthermore, June has suffered from a post-Brawl-era drought of noteworthy nationals — Zenith 2013 is the only Melee tourney since 2008 to break 100+ entrants during this month. Needless to say, this will all change drastically in 2014.

Last month, regionals across the world shattered records to make it arguably the most active month of Melee in history. Get On My Level broke all Canadian Smash attendance records with a whopping 258 Melee entrants, taking full advantage of a $0 venue fee to draw in huge numbers. SKTAR 3 and Republic of Fighters 3 also featured unprecedented turnouts, producing 223 entrants and 198 entrants respectively. WHOBO MLG was the biggest letdown, producing 60 entrants and garnering poor reception overall from Melee attendees.

MLG Qualfier: SKTAR 3 Recap

By |June 2, 2014|Default|0 Comments

Day 2’s top 64 bracket continued the Melee excitement. In round 5 of Winner’s, MMG|Shroomed and SS|Soft’s match would end up going to the final frame. With the set tied at 1-1, Shroomed held onto a minor percentage lead and Soft landed a rest that ordinarily would have sent Shroomed to his death. However, as Shroomed was flying towards the stage boundary, the timer hit “0:00:00” just before he hit it, saving Shroomed from the jaws of defeat. S0ft would end up finishing 17th overall, gaining more than enough points to qualify for MLG Finals.

MLG Qualfier: The Finale, SKTAR 3

By |May 30, 2014|Default|0 Comments

The finale of the MLG qualifiers moves to New Jersey for a 5K event. Many players are in the hunt to earn a spot into the MLG Anaheim Finals. In addition, this will be the first time in nearly a year that Armada will be playing Melee in the United States. Other powerhouses, C9.Mang0, EG.PPMD (Dr. PeePee), and P4K EMP Mew2King will also be in attendance, so expect some really exciting matches between them. Along with Armada,  Reign.eSports Professor Pro will also make an appearance at SKTAR 3, playing in Melee singles along with some exciting exhibitions. From the west coast, Westballz, MIOM|SFAT, MMG|Shroomed, and several others will be traveling across the country to participate. Along with people traveling from out of the area, several east coast players such as CTRL|DJ Nintendo, CTRL|The Moon and APEX|Nintendude  will be hoping to defend their turf along with earning MLG Anaheim spots.

MIOM Needs: Editor and Guide Writers

By |May 29, 2014|Default|7 Comments

When I first came aboard MIOM back in December, I thought of this space as a small personal blog in which I could express my opinions about Smash related issues. Little did I know that we would grow into one of the most read blogs in the Melee community. With that being said, I’ve realized that the standards that I initially placed on myself earlier cannot be applied today. This is no longer a small niche blog and needs to have higher standards, both in content and grammar. I currently do not have the time to procure 4-5 articles per week along with editing them by myself, so I am looking to you guys in the community to help out.

I will need the following:
