When you think of Brazil, you probably think about soccer, beaches, beautiful women and awesome street fests, but you may have to add Smash to that list soon. Starting on June 4th, the Brazilian community is hosting its third installment of Torneio Maroto do Smash no Sitio (TMSS), an event-packed 4 day fest that features all of the Smash titles, sans Brawl, hosted on an awesome private ranch just outside Rio de Janeiro.
CaioN, a veteran Melee top 5 player from Brasil, told us all about the upcoming event:
“We are very excited to see this event come together, the best from Brasil, Chile and Peru under the same roof is truly something we have been waiting for a long time.”
It truly is, considering that the Brazilian Melee community was on a decline over the past few years. Yet in a heroic, almost romantic way, all it took was a set from Brazil’s top player Aisengobay to spark a new flame and passion into the scene’s veins: Brazil’s best against England’s best on the biggest stage.
Aisengobay’s victory over Fuzzyness is part of Brasilian smash history now, and it is well justified.
“It was what the community needed. After seeing how well he performed, we were all very motivated to put in work to make our scene grow. He lost to Fiction unfortunately, it was a very stacked pool”. – CaioM
In 2015 Aisengobay attended Apex once more where he won his pool and got to the last phase before final bracket where he lost to ChuDat in winner’s and got knocked out by MIOM’s own Tafokints in loser’s on a huge comeback.
TMSS 3 is going to be the place where a lot of old rivalries will be resolved. The salt is very real, and its “No Johns” salty suite will surely see to that effect. The smash scene has big rivalries among the biggest cities, akin to the East Coast vs West Coast rivalry in the US. Rio de Janeiro’s Izzi (the TO, I should mention) is on the hunt for Aisengobay’s head who just so happens to be from Sao Paulo. It gets even more interesting when you factor in the international players, like Chilean Dark, who bested Aisen in the Road to Japan tournament in Chile a month ago. Other noteworthy Chileans include Roche and Gin. CaioN is also out to make a statement against his rival from Rio, Daredevil, wanting to redeem his defeat from last November.
Smash 64 will be very well represented as well. Peruvian legends Luis, Jose, Pedro Miguel and Alvin will all be attending. How good is Peruvian 64? Well, the fact that Isai visited the country a few times to play them says it all. The legends will have to watch out for Chileans like Shalaka and Cirujano, and of course local boys Banze, Cabelo and Oxo. Banze is an Apex veteran placing as high as 9th place, and is looking for redemption on his defeat against Alvin.
In Smash 4, people have called their winner already: Player 7. Player 7 is the Brazilian Zero, having won everything and is expected to come out on top once again. He dominated the Brawl era for years and his transition into Smash 4 has been very effective, having found his main in Sheik, a top-tier character.
Alas, amidst the hype there’s one thing that truly hurt the Brasilian community. The biggest surprise for this event was going to be an American top player that was scheduled to attend. You might have heard of him, he goes by SFAT and he’s pretty good. After a successful donation drive for his ticket, everything was set for his arrival this week. Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding with the visa situation, Zac was unable to attend. He was heartbroken as well; He had been looking forward for this trip.
Plane tickets are good for up to a year though, so hopefully we get to see SFAT on Brazilian territory in the near future.
Make sure to check out the stream this weekend, lots of action and some of the best South American players you have never even heard of, but you should definitely look up to.
Hey bro, thanks for the help, every little thing counts to help grow the community <3
BANDO DE VIADO DO CARALHO
Cara, você não tem vergonha de ficar postando essas coisas? Vai arranjar alguma coisa pra fazer!
This is great. I’ve battled Player 7 once. The guy didn’t let me kill him even once.
