Hey Everyone,

Here’s a list of helpful advice for Genesis 3 in regards to Travel, Airports, Packing, and Food. Hope, everyone has a fantastic time this year!

*Venue Address*

San Jose Convention Center
150 W San Carlos St
San Jose, CA 95113

Travel

Traveling to the Venue From San Jose Airport (4.3 Miles)

Private Ride Share Options

Uber – Free Code for $15
Lyft – Free Code for $50

The easiest way to use ride sharing apps is to use free codes with a group of friends. San Jose Airport has recently allowed for Uber and Lyft to drive around the San Jose airport. If you are coming with a group, use 1 code to the venue and have another friend use their code on the way back. This is the most direct way to get to and from the airport, but if there are price surges, then an alternative is recommended.

Public Transportation

VTA Rails (http://www.vta.org/) – ($2 one way)

You can use the rail (#901 or #902) to get to the venue. It’ll require some walking to get to the Karina Station (~1 mile), but it’ll lead you directly to the Convention Center

Call a Friend

Alternatively, you can call a Norcal homie with a car to pick you up. It’s highly unlikely they want to do that, but hey that’s what homies are for.

Traveling to the Venue From Oakland Airport (~40.0 Miles)

Private Ride Share Options (note: only allowed to drop off at airport, no pick ups allowed)

Uber – Free Code for $15
Lyft – Free Code for $50

Unfortunately, it is relatively far from the San Jose Convention Center. Uber and Lyft may be pricey, but if you use the code in tandem with splitting the extra cost with 3 other people, it’s not too bad.

Public Transportation

Bart –> Bus 181

This is the optimal way to go about traveling to the venue if you are using public transportation. It’ll cost about $14/person, but will take roughly 1.5-2 hours.

Traveling to the Venue From San Francisco Airport (~40.0 Miles)

Private Ride Share Options

Uber – Free Code for $15
Lyft – Free Code for $50

Unfortunately, it is relatively far from the San Jose Convention Center. Uber and Lyft may be pricey, but if you use the code in tandem with splitting the extra cost with 3 other people, it’s not too bad. Depending on time, there can be heavy traffic though, so be forewarned!

Public Transportation

Bart (towards Mill Brae) –> Caltrain – Millbrae Station –> Caltrain – Diridon Station –> Walk (~1 mile)

This is the most direct route if you are traveling from SFO and will set you back about $11.65 one way.

Food

A general list of food by area can be found here. There are an astounding 250 options available! If there’s a type of cuisine that you want to try, chances are it’s on this list.

My personal recommendations to try once

1. La Victoria (La Vics) Taqueria / Iguana’s [Mexican]

  • Hax infamously ate this while staying at Toph’s place. It’s a decent walk, but worth the trip. It’s a great late night place, especially if you have the munchies. Try the orange sauce at La Vics.

2. The City Fish

  • I love their Fish and Chips. Definitely recommended.

3. Ike’s Love and Sandwiches

  • Originally a San Francisco shop, they have recently built one in San Jose. They have great sandwiches on Dutch Crunch bread, which is phenomenal.

4. Dalat

  • This is my all time favorite Pho place. It’s about a mile from the venue. Chances are most other attendees won’t go this far for food, so it won’t be too packed.

Bars:

Isobeers***
Original gravity*** (duck fat fries!)
Paper plane (nice cocktails)
AFK Gaming Lounge
A bunch of stuff in San Pedro Square

In-N-Out:

Address (~3 miles from the venue)
550 Newhall Dr
San Jose, CA 95110

Easiest way to get there is to use Uber (Free $15) and split the fare with 2-3 other people. Definitely worth the experience, especially if you are not from California.

Other:

Philz Coffee – Try their Mint Mojito Coffee for an experience. It’s really good.
