The Beast from Sweden himself. Adam “Armada” Lindgren was the reigning world champion from July 2011 to July 2013, when his return from an abrupt January retirement was met with 4th place at Evolution 2013. The master of Peach is known for his precise edgeguards and gimps, his speedy out-of-shield game, his overall technical precision, and his ability to adapt to his opponents both mid-set and between tournaments. Though his Singles career may be over, he leaves an incredible legacy, and is one of only a handful of players able to say that, for a time, they were the best in the world. |

Armada definitely deserved that number one spot. Armada is a true model of consistency. I’m not entirely sure but I think EVO 2013 was his first loss in a very long time. He has clearly dominated several of the best players on different occasions and I truly believe he deserves that number one spot. An argument can definitely be made for Mango only post July 2013 but if we look at the last 2-3 years, Armada was the best player in the world no questions asked. Hopefully he does compete at apex 2014. I’m sorry but I do feel a bias towards mango in these rankings.
Like armada said “I agree. A very fun idea but tons of people will be so biased so they vote much better for players in their own region instead of what actually is “true” (http://smashboards.com/threads/ssbm-2013-top-rankings.343528/#post-16081667)
A few of his performances:

But then you see him getting 2-0’d by PP and slapped by Mang0 at EVO. And now if he is done with singles than I really don’t think he should be #1 if he can’t defend his spot. Armada is great and I really want him at Apex 2014 for singles and doubles, but I’d say mang0 is better than him when both are playing their best.
i dont think armada prepared for evo the same way mango did LOL.
not to say it takes away from mangos win at all but i dont think that armada going undefeated for a solid 2-3 years and 7 years in europe and then because he all of a sudden lost to mango once and PP in a tournament where his heart clearly wasnt in it and the fire wasnt there like other players really means much.
i think its pretty obvious he played at least somewhat off at evo, and i’d say he and mango are no less than tied if both were playing at their best with the same amount of practice and such.
i’d pay money to watch them play warm ups for hours on end though. shit would be so good.
^irondragonnn: these are 2013 rankings. Half this game is motivation and heart. If armada wasn’t fully dedicated in recent showings, then how you can say he’s #1? if he played off, then that means he played off. You can’t just point to his potential and past records and say he’s STILL #1.
Biased players complaining about bias 🙂
where’s the peach picture?
