Super Smash Brothers Melee (9)

Press Start LAN (222 Singles Entrants) – 5/10/2015, Irvine, CA

 Press Start was a big LAN event where one of the 2 main events was Melee. They offered Melee and 10k flat pot and it drew attention from many top players. This tourney will go down in the history books for so many good and controversial reasons. It had a huge pot, ran well, had an amazing stream by Showdown, Gods falling left and right, an analyst desk by Tafokints, but also had 3 top players DQ’d and some controversial opinions on seeding and DQ’s.End of day we were left with some amazing matches. Leffen beating m2k with a 4 stock but he was also defeated by Hugs in pools and SFAT in winners bracket. Lucky had his fun taking out Hungrybox in winners. This meant no gods were in winners semis, all were in losers duking it out. SFAT also had the closest set with Hungrybox. We were left with a nail biting finish where both players stood up. On the other hand, Mango ran his train through losers making it seem like this tourney was just a walk in the park. Impressive showing by many players, which just slowly proves the gap between all of the top talent is shrinking.

UBC Cup: Melee (84 Singles Entrants) – 5/9/2015, Vancouver, BC

This tournament was the most stacked event BC has seen so far, with all of BC’s top players in attendance (BO10, NoobKing, Sion, Yakal…) as well as Washington’s finest (SilentWolf, Bladewise, Vish…). There was a pot bonus of $100 plus $1 per entrant, leading to a total pot of over $600. This event was the first of many tournaments that will be officially held by the UBC eSports Association.

Tespa UT and ATX Melee teamed up for the first Lone Star Smash! Melee tournament. The first in a new series, expect big things from Texas Melee.

Texas Showdown 2015 (32 Singles Entrants) – 5/9/2015, Houston, TX

In addition to national FGC tournaments (USF4, MKX, GGXRD, UMvC3, KI, P4AU, BlazBlue, and Smash 4), Texas Showdown 2015 featured a fun local Melee tournament TO’d mainly by BestFriendJohn and streamed by Noc at twitch.tv/texasmelee. Thanks to Javier and TXS15 staff who made the event possible and all the players that came out to support Melee! Hopefully next year we can advertise early and garner regional and even national interest for the Melee tournament.

Wednesday Night Melee 8 @ Oomba (17 Singles Entrants) – 4/29/2015, Laguna Hills, California

Every Wednesday, the Oomba Tournament Center at Laguna Hills Mall has small melee tournaments for Orange County. Common regular players include: Kira, Victor Abdul Latif, Squid, and Captain Faceroll with the occasional Westballz, Mike Haze, and Santiago. Streamed on twitch.tv/orangecountysmash
