Mayhem (176 Singles Entrants) – 4/4/2015, Pasadena, CA

This Mayhem we had Mango and Fly enter, but sadly S2J & Fiction didn’t go, and MacD choose not to enter singles because of possible wrist issues. This one had some of the craziest results too. J666 took out Lucky and made it to Semi’s. He faced off MikeHaze who beat Fly to get to semi’s. Both heavy hitters made losers bracket a scary place, along with Connor who had been in Losers since round 1 of his pool after losing to Zypher.

Mango graced us with his Marth (and Falcon for Hugs). He dropped some games to the Foxes making the finals hype. Lucky brought it all the way back through losers dominating everyone in his path and almost taking Mango to a 2nd set.

1. C9. Mango
2. LuCKy
3. MikeHaze

Midstate Massacre 5 (81 Singles Entrants) – 4/4/2015, Charlotte, NC

Midstate Massacre is the largest running smash tournament in Charlotte, NC, a relatively central location ideal for uniting players from the eastern and western sides of the state, as well as South Carolina. The fifth installment of the series featured its second largest Melee singles turnout ever, 4 short of the record.
$mike came to dominate, only dropping a single game the entire tournament. Members of NC’s rising Melee organization Not Even Good rounded out the top 3, with TAH. only dropping games to $mike and Dark Hart running through losers for a 3rd place finish. Old school NC competitor Bl@ck Chris proved he’s still a strong threat with a solid 4th place finish.

Spring Into Action ’15 (70 Singles Entrants) – 4/4/2015, Portland, Oregon

Local up-and-coming tournament organizer Connor “Contra” Kelly’s 2nd in a series of seasonal house tournaments, this event exceeded all expectations in Melee attendance, but was somewhat lacking in Project M. A unique tournament, this is the first time Oregon has employed the “MLG” style of brackets, automatically advancing the top 8 seeded players to the final bracket, allowing more evenly skilled matches in the preliminary bracket pool portion. As well as Melee Singles, this event featured a throwback “Low Tier only” bracket, which was won by Bart, a very oldschool player using his stylish Roy, with a not-so-close 2nd place win for Kill La Keith using Link.

2. Eggz

Then Crush won the first 2 games before MDZ’s Falco ran train and prevented a bracket reset.

SHREKFEST 2: IT’S NOT OGRE YET (48 Singles Entrants) – 3/31/2015, Seattle, Washington

shrekfest2

SHREKFEST II: IT’S NOT OGRE YET was the sequel to the critically acclaimed tournament SHREKFEST: KING OF THE SWAMP. 48 smashers came out to show off their skills and aim for a spot on the University of Washington’s Smash Club PR.
SHREKFEST II also provided an opportunity for Washington’s Vish (#3 on WA PR, #1 on WA Indian PR) to defend his title as King of the Swamp, but his lack of attendance left the slimy scepter up for grabs.
The next generation of Washington’s rising stars, including eBay (#6), OutTheCuts (#7), Vino (#8 on WA PR, #3 on WA Indian PR), Wasabi, Rustin and VitaminE, came to fight, but only two ogres were left standing.
Grand Finals culminated in an epic clash between eBay and Vino, set to classics like Smash Mouth’s “All Star” and “I’m a Believer”. After a devastating bracket reset, running it to game 5, Vino had cemented himself as the new King of the Swamp. As a punishment for dragging out GF, Vino bit into the onion of victory.
Will Vish return to take his throne? Will Vino defend his title and continue to make waves in the WA and Indian PRs? Only SHREKFEST 3: I CAME IN LIKE A SHREKING BALL, will tell.

Melee Shockwave III (44 Singles Entrants) – 4/4/2015, Tijuana, Baja California

Melee Shockwave is a tournament series in Tijuana (Mexico), which began with the objective of reviving Tijuana’s scene; because for years there had been no Melee exclusive tournaments. Despite being new, there has been a very good response from the players and the community in general and that’s because there have been efforts to keep improving both the player experience and the experience of public, giving utmost importance to the recording of audiovisual material (game matches and general footage of the event); which is new to the community in the region.
This has led to old-school players coming back and young people to join the Melee competitive community. With support of the community and its players, we hope to keep on growing and doing things getting better.

NCR 2015 (125 Singles Entrants) – 4/4/2015, Sacremento, CA

NCR 2015 was the most stacked SSB4 tournament Norcal has seen yet. The two day event had 125 entrants as well as players from Socal, Reno, and Chile. Sacremento’s own BKO Virus landed an unanticipated 4th place, losing only to NME Zex twice in top 8. Ito, ranked #1 in San Diego, finally took a victory over NME Zex and went into Grand Finals to face off against ZeRo for the #1 spot. The two players fought it out with their secondaries, Metaknight for Ito and Captain Falcon for ZeRo, but ZeRo took home the crown with a 3-1 victory in one set. Overall it was an amazing tournament with over 25k viewers for top 8.
