To make your viewing experience easier, here are some 5 players from 5 countries to look out for in Smash 4 at Apex 2015.
Canada:
Ally: Just last year there was talk in the community about whether or not Ally could still compete at a top level, as his placements in Brawl were steadily declining and his motivation seemed all but gone. However, Ally has come back stronger than ever in Smash 4 and is currently one of the players at the forefront of the meta-game. He is the best Smash 4 player in Canada, and recently defended his home turf at “The Come Up” beating top players such as NAKAT & Mew2King in convincing sets. A former world champion known for his cerebral play-style and unshaken confidence in high pressure scenarios, Ally is poised for another stellar performance in the Apex 2015 Smash4 competition.
US:
Mew2King: A legend in the community and a master of the Smash franchise, M2K is surprisingly one of the least guaranteed picks for this years Top 5 at Apex. He has not been as dominant in Smash 4 as he was at the start of Brawl, despite once again picking the best character in the game from the jump. M2K has had shaky performances in some Smash 4 majors, with his most notable loss coming at the hands of DK aficionado “Will” at The Come Up. If he comes across an unfamiliar match up at Apex, we may see the King of the Mews fall early in the bracket this year. However, M2K’s training regime is nearly unrivaled in the Smash community and only time will tell if he is fully prepared for Apex and ready to capture that ever illusive victory in a singles competition at Apex.
Japan:
Choco: Considered to be one of Japan’s top players attending Apex 2015, Choco has continued where he left off in SSBB and emerged as the premiere ZSS player too look out for in Smash Wii U with impressive victories in large Japanese competitions over Rain & Brood. His devastating punish game combined with near frame perfect traps make Choco one of the scariest competitors this year and my pick to be the highest placing player from Japan. This will be his first time traveling to the U.S to compete, so the pressure will be on to see if Choco can live up to the expectations of his country.
Chile:
Zero: ZeRo stirred up quite a bit of drama in the Smash 4 community when just a few weeks into the game’s release he called attention towards a possible need for the ban of top tier character Diddy Kong. At the time he was a Fox main, but shortly after he switched to the ever so infamous Diddy Kong and never looked back. He has made it clear that he is playing with one goal in mind; not to entertain, but to win. Despite the negative reception from fans for the decision to play Diddy, it has paid off big for ZeRo and he is undoubtedly the favorite to win Smash 4 at Apex 2015. You need to give credit where credit is due; ZeRo has won almost every Smash 4 event which he has attended and shown a dedication to the game that is hard to match. The Chile native is currently staying in California and has been practicing everyday with top American competitors in preparation for Apex. He was in the finals of last years Brawl competition at Apex 2014(where he lost in an extremely close set with Nairo) but you best believe that he wants another shot at a championship this year.
The Netherlands:
Mr.R: Mr.R is Europe’s best Smash 4 player and was one of the most traveled competitors in Brawl. Ramin is a fan favorite in the Smash community, who is known for playing at the top level with an extremely innovative and entertaining play-style. He was invited to Sky Williams #TNE Smash 4 invitational where he showed why his Sheik is revered as one of the best in the world in Smash 4, walking away as the event’s champion with wins over players such as ESAM, NAKAT and ZeRo. He is no stranger to the Apex main stage, with repeat top 10 performances in Brawl in 2013 & 2014, but this European competitor is hungry to prove himself and will have his sight sets on being the first person to take the world title at the largest ever Smash 4 tournament.
