Hey there! It’s Anna, aka Housewife. You may know me as a Midwestern melee player, art school graduate, and professional smash community troll jokester. You actually probably don’t know me at all. That’s fine.
Several months ago, I released a 10-question survey to the internet smash community asking some basic questions like your age, region, and your favorite stages in melee. I was planning to create an infographic as practice for my own design endeavors, but I thought that this could also be a useful tool for the smash community. The survey was specifically catered towards melee players in the United States, and I received almost 700 responses in about two weeks. I hope you enjoy this little collection of player data, because I certainly had a lot of fun making it. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up on facebook (Anna Zotta) or twitter (@fyounickcarroll) or you can harass me at a tournament about it and yell at me in twitch chat sometime. Thanks again to everyone who participated!

Seems impossible that there are more Marth mains than Fox mains. Or Falco.
I was taken aback by that stat when I saw, too. I came to the conclusion that this is due to the demographic that answered the survey. Nearly half of the players had been playing fewer than 2 years, and had never been to a tourney. As I see it, it’s much more difficult to pick up Falco from the start, than to practice him after you already have a certain level of tech-skill and game knowledge. They are unforgiving in their recoveries, and they can be punished ruthlessly for their mistakes. I suspect the percentages would be significantly different if they surveyed only those who had made it out of pools in a major tourney, or something similar.
