Super Smash Brothers Melee (10)

Smash @ Clarendon Arcadian (141 Singles Entrants) – 12/5/2014, Arlington, VA

The first ever Arcadian tournament in the DC/MD/VA region was a huge success, bringing in a record turnout for a local tournament in this area. The University of Maryland, College Park proved to be the dominant force at this tournament bringing 21 players, with 7 of them (one of whom is a professor) advancing out of pools and into the top-16 bracket.
Fortune defeated Scrapmettle’s Marth and Ace of Flakes’ Jigglypuff to advance to winner’s finals, where he fell to UMCP’s SG in a close 3-2 set. In losers bracket, Ace of Flakes eliminated BigWenz and Shinku for a chance to rematch Fortune. With College Park’s huge numbers behind his back, Ace of Flakes rode his momentum to a 3-1 revenge victory, resulting in a College Park grand finals. Ace of Flakes managed to reset the bracket vs. his classmate, but his rally fell just short as SG clutched it out in game 5 of the second set. Should The Melee Games come to the DC-area next semester, College Park will certainly be the school to keep an eye on.

U of M Monthly Iteration 2 (64 Singles Entrants) – 12/13/2014, Minneapolis, MN

While the top two placements were predictable, third and fourth place were complete tossups with almost every ranked MN player missing from the tournament. Veklor, the new up-and-comer Falco main came out on top in Losers Semis, with a close last game win vs the veteran Fox player Sync. Due to the lack of PR members in attendance, many good up-and-comers were given a chance to prove themselves against each other.

UM Biweekly 7 (40 Singles Entrants) – 12/7/2014, Ann Arbor, Michigan

Due to many of Michigan’s finest being out of state at TCU, the field opened up for new faces to appear in the top 8 of UMB7. Shady won it all ultimately, but a 3-0 from Beach in Grand Finals forced him to switch from Falcon to Fox to win the last set 3-1. TM prevailed over Hellsing in winners, but Hellsing brought it back to win in losers semi’s before having a rough time vs Beach’s sheik, getting 3-0’d in Losers Finals. There was also a reverse mains side event, which saw TM win it all because, as it turns out, no one can play Ganon.

BIO 5 (33 Singles Entrants) – 12/7/2014, Tuscaloosa, AL

The BIO series is Tuscaloosa’s super fun monthly. This time around, we had Pikachad make the trip to show us how to play Smash. Coming in after him were the two best in AL, Moogle and J00t. Rounding out the top four was Keno (Cheap Peach) who showed us that even though he changed his name, Peach was in fact still pretty Cheap.

Nebulous Saturday Melee 23 (27 Singles Entrants) – 12/6/2014, New York, NY

A nice change of pace from last week’s Super Nebulous.
Cheezpuff played amazing, taking down HectoHertz, SirRocko, Ryan-K, and Fiya.
Vanz continued his return to NYC, taking Hax to game 5 and beating everyone else easily.
OTG beat Fiya and BeerMan.
RyanK’s DK beat Green Ranger’s Falco. So yeah, that happened.
