For the second straight year, MeleeItOnMe is ranking every SSBM Player and counting them down on Twitter (#SSBMRank2014 @Meleeitonme), from No. 100 to No. 1 .

We asked a panel of ~30 players/commentators/figureheads from all across the world to rate the overall level of play for each player in 2014 (From January 2014 –> The Big House 4). This includes evaluating perceived skill in tandem with the tournament results.

Summary:
In a year marked by massive improvement from several players just outside the top 5, perennial NorCal great SFAT was perhaps among those left in the lurch, failing to finish better than 17th at any of the four majors he attended. However, he performed well at California events throughout the year and turned heads in November when he stormed through Losers’ Bracket against strong opposition to take 3rd at the aptly named Do You Fox Wit It. Flashing some new 20XX-inspired improvements to an already potent neutral game, he remains one of the strongest Fox mains in the world and appears poised for a bounce-back year in 2015.

Summary:
It’s hard to ignore what the German former-Sheik-turned-Fox does whenever he comes stateside. After several years of dominance as a Sheik main, including a top-8 finish at EVO 2013, Ice didn’t slow down in 2014 as he slowly developed into a Fox player, citing the character’s superior “fun” element. Finishing 9th at Apex and 33rd at EVO this year, as well as a victory over Leffen at Hit & Stun Tournament 2 in Europe, show that his swift movement and punishes are still top level and not to be underestimated.

Summary:
The best Falcon main in the world doesn’t really give interviews. There’s never any talk of him quitting, or taking breaks, as many of his era’s other greats (including his friend and teammate, Lovage) have done. His slick-moving combo-fiend falcon has engendered an admiration in the community at large that can only be compared to the mania once inspired by Isai’s invention of the character. S2J has been 3rd and 5th in SoCal’s recent PR’s, and is likely to move up in the next. The only thing between him and top-10 contention is the lack of a recent breakout national.

Summary:
Fiction has quickly risen to become one of the premier Fox players in the game, implementing strong tech skill, fundamentals and precise edgeguards to shred his opponents’ stocks. The SoCal native broke out with an impressive Top 8 showing at Apex 2014, defeating Nintendude, KoreanDJ, Plup and MacD. He continued his breakout year with 13th-place finishes at both MLG Anaheim and EVO and has also taken two sets off Mew2King, including a 3-stock victory over his Sheik in Game 3 of their set at SSS Lock-In.

Summary:
Plup continues to take samus to new heights in the modern metagame. Plup boasts one of the most consistent national resumes of 2014, placing 9th at MLG, EVO, and TBH4. Notably, his lowest placing among the big five nationals was a highly respectable 13th at Apex. His unique brand of Samus is distinguished by his highly developed aerial game (with a character considered to be ground based), grapple-heavy recovery style, and telepathic charge shots, which were showcased in his salty suite ditto vs Hugs, infamously containing a game where Plup lands 5 charge shots. Don’t be surprised if you see this wiley samus cracking top 8s at the largest majors in 2015.
