For the second straight year, MeleeItOnMe is ranking every SSBM Player and counting them down on Twitter (#SSBMRank2014 @Meleeitonme), from No. 100 to No. 1 .
We asked a panel of ~30 players/commentators/figureheads from all across the world to rate the overall level of play for each player in 2014 (From January 2014 –> The Big House 4). This includes evaluating perceived skill in tandem with the tournament results.

In a year marked by massive improvement from several players just outside the top 5, perennial NorCal great SFAT was perhaps among those left in the lurch, failing to finish better than 17th at any of the four majors he attended. However, he performed well at California events throughout the year and turned heads in November when he stormed through Losers’ Bracket against strong opposition to take 3rd at the aptly named Do You Fox Wit It. Flashing some new 20XX-inspired improvements to an already potent neutral game, he remains one of the strongest Fox mains in the world and appears poised for a bounce-back year in 2015.

It’s hard to ignore what the German former-Sheik-turned-Fox does whenever he comes stateside. After several years of dominance as a Sheik main, including a top-8 finish at EVO 2013, Ice didn’t slow down in 2014 as he slowly developed into a Fox player, citing the character’s superior “fun” element. Finishing 9th at Apex and 33rd at EVO this year, as well as a victory over Leffen at Hit & Stun Tournament 2 in Europe, show that his swift movement and punishes are still top level and not to be underestimated.

The best Falcon main in the world doesn’t really give interviews. There’s never any talk of him quitting, or taking breaks, as many of his era’s other greats (including his friend and teammate, Lovage) have done. His slick-moving combo-fiend falcon has engendered an admiration in the community at large that can only be compared to the mania once inspired by Isai’s invention of the character. S2J has been 3rd and 5th in SoCal’s recent PR’s, and is likely to move up in the next. The only thing between him and top-10 contention is the lack of a recent breakout national.

Fiction has quickly risen to become one of the premier Fox players in the game, implementing strong tech skill, fundamentals and precise edgeguards to shred his opponents’ stocks. The SoCal native broke out with an impressive Top 8 showing at Apex 2014, defeating Nintendude, KoreanDJ, Plup and MacD. He continued his breakout year with 13th-place finishes at both MLG Anaheim and EVO and has also taken two sets off Mew2King, including a 3-stock victory over his Sheik in Game 3 of their set at SSS Lock-In.

Plup continues to take samus to new heights in the modern metagame. Plup boasts one of the most consistent national resumes of 2014, placing 9th at MLG, EVO, and TBH4. Notably, his lowest placing among the big five nationals was a highly respectable 13th at Apex. His unique brand of Samus is distinguished by his highly developed aerial game (with a character considered to be ground based), grapple-heavy recovery style, and telepathic charge shots, which were showcased in his salty suite ditto vs Hugs, infamously containing a game where Plup lands 5 charge shots. Don’t be surprised if you see this wiley samus cracking top 8s at the largest majors in 2015.

Plup mainly gets 9th at tournaments HE MUST BE 16Th!!2132123
First of all, Plup doesn’t get 9th at tournaments outright. He shares that with 3 other people so he really gets somewhere between the 9th and 13 range at tournies. (His 13th place finish at Apex is the same way, he really got somewhere between 13th and 17th.)
Secondly, he gets 9th at tournaments, sure. BUT a lot of tournies does not have EVERYONE in attendance, so getting 9th is a little easier to do. I will admit that his 9th place finishes at evo and mlg are pretty impressive because everyone was present at those tournies but I am less impressed with his 5th place finish at CEO and 9th place finish at the Big HOUSE 4 simply because not everyone was there, e.g. big house 4 was missing PPMD and players (off the top of my head) like silent wolf and pewpewu, two players that are probably slightly better than Plup. I know CEO was similar, if not, was missing even more players.
Just gotta take that into account! Think about how he would have placed if ALL the high ranked players were in attendance.
Plup is sadly a little underrated. With these kind of results he should be ranked higher and definitely above Shroomed.
Yup. I thought Shroomed would drop slightly more than he apparently has this year. It’s a shame that Plup keeps on getting just outside top 8 that would have really helped his publicity.
That being said, I’d say 16th is pretty accurate @That One Guy.
im looking at ranks 20-16. why on earth cant i click to see 15-10 or whatever? it just stops at 20-16 where i am now. shitty fucking website cant even look through the ranks. do you not want people to look at your website? this is how you get people to leave your website.
Please leave, you’ve already made this same post as another name, and I really think that your just another esports fan doing fucking pathetic posts to gain attention.
These comments need a “like” system. Like.
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
Dude they’re announcing them in chunks over four weeks, the rest isn’t out yet. Schedule here http://www.meleeitonme.com/what-is-ssbmrank-2/
They’re not released yet. No need to bash the site. It’s your choice if you want to leave.
@Bryan
Okay whatever diffrent opinions but this list is getting more and more retarded shroomed should be 16th or higher, Plup has more results.
@that one guy Yeah I know it’s everyone’s opinions it was just something I was thinking. It gets harder to rank people because unless it’s Evo or apex or mlg or something like that where everyone joins, it’s hard to take someone’s rank at face value. I will admit that plup is awesome and if he was ranked say 13th I wouldn’t have a problem with that!
This list is highly subjective I know, which is why I asked earlier who the 30 or so people on the panel are in an earlier post which no one answered. I wonder how unbiased or biased the 30 people are based on region and what not.
I meant “someone’s placing”
With national placings alone of this year, Plup should outplace Hax. Don’t understand how Plup shouldn’t be top 15 at the VERY VERY LEAST. If you look at placings alone he should actually be 9.
Plup should be higher, this list disappoints.
And by higher, I mean a better placing than 16th…
