For the second straight year, MeleeItOnMe is ranking every SSBM Player and counting them down on Twitter (#SSBMRank2014 @Meleeitonme), from No. 100 to No. 1 .
We asked a panel of ~30 players/commentators/figureheads from all across the world to rate the overall level of play for each player in 2014 (From January 2014 –> The Big House 4). This includes evaluating perceived skill in tandem with the tournament results.

New York City’s up-and-coming Marth main The Moon has truly made a name for himself. With many people predicting he would show vast improvements within a year’s time, “La Luna” has not let those folks down. As of Tristate’s most recent power rankings back in early June, The Moon was ranked third behind only Mew2King and Hax, even surpassing mentor and teammate DJ Nintendo, among others. With his fluid movement and liberal use of down-airs, this White Marth main is certainly a name to be feared.

Young Florida Falcon phenomenon Wizzrobe has proven himself, despite his young age, to be deadly in bracket. Notably defeating Axe at Zenith 2014, and Shroomed at The Big House 4, Wizzrobe has consistently placed Top 8 at most regional tournaments he attends. With his extremely high level Smash 64 and Project M also under his belt, young Wizzrobe already has a lot of experience and a lot of skill. He is definitely someone to keep your eyes on in the coming months.

For many years, “the man, the myth, Kelly Smith” has excelled in the Midwest Melee scene, but notoriously suffered on larger stages. Some have speculated that his patient, textbook style of play and tendency to counterpick certain matchups with his secondaries held him back against the nation’s top players. Throughout the summer, Kels placed 2nd at UFGTX, 5th at Super SWEET, and won SMYM15, cementing his continued regional dominance. His biggest story of the year was at TBH4, though, where he lost early in round 2 brackets to Professor Pro, only to power his way through Laudandus, Bladewise, Nintendude, Wizzrobe, and Axe to earn a spectacular top 8 finish.

The subject of one of Melee’s most contentious ‘what if’ counterfactuals, the enigmatic Mexican Fox main Javi is thought by some to have been the best player in the world at some point during the game’s dark days in the late aughts. These days, he has settled in as an excellent Fox player whose sparse but nonetheless impressive stateside appearances captivate the Melee masses. This year he again failed to replicate the success of 2012’s magical 4th-place Apex run, finishing 25th at his lone major appearance at EVO, but there is hardly any shame in losing to S2J or Eddy Mexico.

When it comes to veterans players, they don’t get much older than Chillin. Being active in the Melee scene since its early inception, Chillin revolutionized the way Fox would be played for many years to come, inventing many trademark combos and techniques such as the falling up-air. Chillin continues to compete at a high level, his breakout performance of 2014 being EVO, where he placed 9th, defeating big names like Colbol and Westballz. Chillin still proves to be a technical master with vast amounts of experience, making him a very dangerous player.

>this white marth main
hes not white at all tho
@Jeff He goes white marth. Like, in game, he picks the white costume (unless it’s grand finals in which he goes black, calling it the “dark side of the moon”)
His Marth alt that he uses is.
He uses the white Marth color.
😉
where the hell is n0ne?
when i saw wizzy i said “what the fuck” but then i thought about it and i agree.
He’s one of the top 5 Falcons in the world if not the best, he deserves his spot no questions asked.
so Eddy Mexico beats Javi at EVO, beats S2J who beat Javi, and he somehow ends up below Javi? or was that 2012 win over Dr.PP seriously considered “to rate the overall level of play…in 2014”? not hating on Javi. just curious to know how this happened.
