Kings of the North 3 (168 Singles Entrants) – 11/8/2014, Milwaukee, WI

MeleeMilwaukee

Milwaukee’s third tournament in the series was a rousing success, featuring attendance from 4-5 states. The day started off with an exciting top 3 of doubles, with Andale’s explosive puff pulling a string of ridiculous rests in LF (Andale/Hindawg vs Darkatma/Dekuschrub). Ultimately, Atma and Deku would squeeze out a 1v2 at the end of game 5 with a disappointing SD from Hindawg to take the set. Riding off the victory, Atma and Deku were able to take a set from Kels/Mew2king before finally dropping to more conservative play in set 2.
In singles, Kels busted out the marth to smoothly handle Frootloop in WS, while on the other side Mew2king swept a quick victory over Darkatma. In a series of awkward TOing shenanigans where a best of 3 turned into a best of 5, Darkatma squeezed a victory over Vro, to the crowd’s disappointment. On the other side Frootloop quickly took care of Shinobi, an up and rising precise fox main from the middle of Missouri.
Darkatma and Frootloop met in LS, where Frootloop took a close but solid victory in a 3-2 set. In the meantime Mew2king had knocked Kels into loser’s from WF. In the Frootloop vs Kels rematch, Frootloop showed determination and precise play that netted him a 2-1 lead over Kels’ marth and sheik. By game 4, Kels attemped to switch to fox, but Frootloop held the lead the entire game and took a solid 3-1 to make it to grand finals.
In Frootloop vs Mew2king grand finals, Frootloop displayed great decision making and reactive play that lead him to leads on many of the games. Ultimately Mew2king’s deadly punish and edgeguard game netted him a 3-0 victory over Frootloop to become the third King of the North (hailing from afar).

Don’t Take My Stock 3 (97 Singles Entrants) – 11/8/2014, Gainesville, Florida

This was Florida’s biggest tournament since CEO! We had players from all over the state show up for this! Darkrain even attended this event, where he placed 5th, dropping sets to VS Porkchops in winners and COG Wizzrobe in losers bracket. There was a $100 money match between Darkrain and Gahtzu, which Gahtzu won by a convincing five games to none. Crs. Hungrybox took home the tournament, beating SS Colbol in Winners and Grand Finals. Project M was taken by COG Wizzrobe, but the real surprise was seeing MrLz, a 13-year-old netplay warrior show up and bodied people like VS Cruz Control to make it to 4th place!

This is the first Mayhem in a while that hasn’t broke 100. Probably due to the double tourney weekend along with Super Smash Weekend on Sunday. Sadly our streamer didn’t make it out so we don’t have any of the matches recorded. I am going to do everything possible to have a working stream at the next one.
Larry beat Lucky in winners quarters, was able to take down Connor in Winners Semis, and then Westballz in Winners Finals ending with the sickest 0-death. Lucky pulled it all the way through losers to take the whole thing.

Hitbox Dozen 5 (36 Singles Entrants) – 11/9/2014, San Diego, CA

The largest edition yet of a growing San Diego biweekly series, Hitbox Dozen 5 featured singles, doubles, and a high-stakes best-of-nine money match for the ages! With the venue bursting at the seams with smashers and hype, Garrett’s Fox and Falco overcame a 3-1 deficit to beat his eternal Falcomaster rival, Cameron, and be crowned the (temporary) king of Chula Vista.

In teams, the frightening old school duo of Socal’s Arcadian Runner-Up Leeland and the previously ranked Rickety overcame all opponents, including East Coast Jeff and Chroma’s 20xx spacie onslaught in WFs and GFs.

While singles pools featured several impressive upsets over some of SD’s legends (including the up-and-coming spacies PTK and Trichael Man over Russel and Leeland respectively), the old guard showed their mettle in the championship bracket. Grand Finals featured Rickety making a statement in his first tournament out of inactivity by forcing a bracket reset, but Leeland’s ICs closed out the tournament with a dominating 3-0…. can anyone stop his recent reign of dominance over San Diego?
