The Shape of Melee to Come V (104 Singles Entrants) – 9/27/2014, Cleveland, OH

Shape V

The Lakeland Video Game expo was a smashing good time thanks to GDL Entertainment Event Director — Chris Hatala, Lakeland Gamer’s Guild President –Dom DiPadova, and Technical Officer Josh Lozar. The event was hosted at Lakeland Community College featuring vendors: 8-Bit Evolution (custom console/controller distributor), Handelabra Games, artist Lokiiart, and even Microsoft.

The highlight of the expo was the SSBM event “Shape of Things to Come V” which gave host to 104 single entrants from… around the world (but mainly the Northeast OH and Western PA region). Exciting matches happened non-stop especially such as S1 vs 4% and the nail-biting 5 game set between Duck and Abate which ended with Abate clinching it out. Ohio’s own Mango and Sweden’s Armada faced off in the Grand Finale, and soon enough those USD will need converted to SEK (Swedish Kronas) as the international visitor walked away with the pot after a 3-0 shutout victory. The whole event ran as smooth as possible, fabulously run by T.O. Josh Lozar who had to squeeze 100+ participants into both a Singles AND Doubles brackets in under 10 hours while other events were running simultaneously at the venue (KoF, SF2, USF4, MK8, among others). Get pumped for “Shape of Things to Come VI”.

Midstate Massacre 4 (60 Singles Entrants) – 9/28/2014, Charlotte, NC

After MSM3 running over on time and PM not finishing, I decided to take Wife’s advice about not running doubles for multi-game, single day events. This allowed us to handle the huge number of participants for smash that we are now getting in the Charlotte area, and still run a big event in one day. This event was a huge improvement over the last one, and I plan to continue running and improving it in the future.

Salty Joystiq Presents: Salty Meteor Smash! (20 Singles Entrants) – 9/28/2014, Vineland, NJ

Salty Joystiq held its fourth monthly and its first tournament featuring players outside of south NJ such as Eggm, Velocity, Metal Reeper, Chain-ace, Ultimascout and more. Local champions Ten and Son2 only placed 7th while Zodiac (usually 3rd place to Ten and Son2) not only beat his demon Ten but ended up placing 4th. We were really happy with the turnout of good players and hope to see them again at one of the next few monthlies.
