Once again, we are back with another big national with Big House 4! Fortunately, Robin “Juggleguy” Harn has closed registration early, so that fantasy drafts can be done early. With that being said, here’s a template for you and your friends to use.
As a quick recap, here’s a “how to play” Fantasy Smash guide
What is Fantasy Smash?
Similar to sports, a fantasy league helps add excitement and tests the knowledge of each player’s skill level. For a tournament, each person drafts players that they believe will do the best in the given tournament. The person will be given a certain number of points depending on how well the player performs. The team with the most points wins the fantasy draft
Prize Distribution
If you are playing for $$, give out 70% for 1st and 30% for 2nd (you can adjust %s for # of entrants to whatever you see fit)
How to Play:
Step 1: Get the Template from Google Docs
Step 2: Find a group of smashers
Gather a group of fellow Smash Enthusiasts, wager a little money ($10-20) to keep it entertaining and start a draft pool!
Step 3: Determine the Draft order
There are some inherit advantages to picking in a particular spot, so to ensure that there is a fair system in place, you can bid for the preferred spot in the auction at the expense of losing points in the end.
For example, I bid 36 points for 1st Pick. Peter bids 40 pts. As a result, Peter wins the 1st pick, but will lose 40 pts in his final point total
You can decide how to determine this, but typically doing an auction for each pick is the fairest as it ensures that everyone had a chance to get whatever pick they wanted. The point distribution (See below) tends to favor the people who pick 1st or 2nd, so as a precautionary measure, the auction for position seems to be the most fair.
Step 4: Draft!
Once the pick order is done, you can begin drafting. The 1st pick should pick his player and then contact/poke the next player in line to make their pick. This process should be done for 8-10 rounds (depending on the # of relevant notable players entering the tournament)
The order of a draft is snake style. A player who gets the 1st pick of a particular round will be the last one to pick in the following round.
For Example: (4 person draft) |
Player A chooses M2K first. |
Player B chooses Mang0 second |
Player C chooses Dr. PeePee third |
Player D chooses HungryBox fourth |
Since Player D chose last, he will choose first in the next round |
Player D chooses Shroomed 5th, Player C chooses Hax 6th and so on |
Step 5: Scoring
Once the tournament is finished, note the placements of each of the players and calculate your final score. The team with the most points wins.
