B.E.A.S.T 4 (160 Singles Entrants)- 2/12/14 – 2/15/14, Gothenburg, Sweden

This event marked the first major international event held in Europe this year. Hosted by Armada, Lolex and their team of T.O’s this was the fourth in their tournament series which again without fail, brought out the best players Europe has to offer. Hyped up with the expectation of the best Europe has to offer, helped catapult the attendance of this event to make it the second largest European event in history. Along with the  added drama of the ‘Leffen incident’’ which saw his return to a Swedish event for the first time in a year after his ban only made this even more exciting.

Day 1 kicked off with project m serving as a great sign of things to come. The story coming from this tournament mainly revolved around Team UK and the Swedish, and more importantly Professor Pro. If you are not familiar with what is arguably the hottest rivalry in project m currently, Professor Pro and Rolex are currently in a battle of best snake player in the world. Making his first debut at an international event in attempt to get solid ground to help his ongoing claim, Prof successfully navigated himself to a second place finish behind Armada after fighting off a 3-0 loss vs Leffen in Winners Semis over coming him in Losers Finals. Armada however convincingly silenced any questions over his number one player in the world spot with a very entertaining set against Prof in the Grand Finals taking it 3-2 and creating a nice opener for the next 2 days. If you haven’t seen the set you should definitely check it out.

Day 2 was teams and as predicted the final came down to the team of Ice & Leffen vs Team U.G.S being the brothers, Armada and Aniolas. Although it was not the only story of the tournament, with very good performances all round from up and coming teams, most notably Thomas & Vegard, Andriod & Zoler and Fuzzyness & Jolteon. In the end Team U.G.S showed off their almost unparalleled unison with a very convincing performance over Europe’s #1 & #2 singles players of last year.

Day 3 and it was time for serious business. With basically everybody who is anybody in Europe at this event the atmosphere in the venue was one of optimism and excitement and this was only added to with Armada confirming his return to singles competition as he aimed to do a clean sweep of his own events. After a tough round of pools followed by a 64 person bracket there were many disappointing and outstanding performances, notably Professor Pro placing 13th at his first international event, Thomas who pushed Fuzzyness to the brink of elimination, and Baxon (France’s #1 of 2013), Salepate (France’s #2), Trif (Spain’s #2) all falling short of a top 8 spot. We were left with a top 8 of:
Jeapie (The Netherlands); Tekk (France); Overtriforce (Spain); Leffen (Sweden); Ice (Germany); Fuzzness (UK); Andriod (Sweden) and Armada (Sweden).

After an exciting Top 6 including a Winners Semi set featuring a blackout, we were left with Armada vs Leffen for 1st place. And it is here were history is written with Leffen 3-0ing Armada’s Peach for the first time in years in what is one of the most devastating and comfortable wins in melee history. And it didn’t end there with Armada shocking everyone and adding to the fuel of the ‘20XX metagame’ choosing to go Fox against Leffen after the bracket was reset. However this change was not enough to overcome a Leffen playing with such conviction and confidence that he would not be beaten in a ditto. Armada manages to avoid another 3-0 but still falls to an eventual 6-1 in what people are calling ‘revenge.zip’.

Leffen in a following interview made shots at the current ‘5 Melee Gods’ claiming after taking down his 2nd could this mean the rise of a 6th god? And will we see Armada rise back up to what he once was? The next few months are going to be some of the most exciting the scene has seen.

ALSO it was announced that MLG will be playing a role in a European event in may held in France,
more to be confirmed but until then contain your hype!
