Over the past weekend, smashers from all over Florida traveled to Orlando in search of a victory at CEO Winterfest, a large fighting game event hosted by Alex Jebailey to build hype for CEO 2014. Most of the current Florida PR players showed up, along with a few old school Florida players came out. Most of the Top 8 matches were Miami (Blea Gelo, LambChops, PorkChops, vs. Orlando (Harriet, Plup, Colbol, Hungrybox, Articanus), so seeing the crowd react to rivalries was amazing. Colbol ended up taking Winners Finals over Hungrybox (3-2), only to just prolong Hungrybox’s comeback win in Grand Finals, where he reset the brackets (3-1), then won in game 5 of the final set!! The energy from the players reflected in the room. One of the more exciting matches to watch ended up being the Colbol vs. Plup set; Colbol had lost to Plup more than he has won recently, but placed much higher than him at APEX 2014, which left people wondering who was truly better. Colbol ended up taking the set in winners semi’s 3-1. This was the first smash bros event that CEO has hosted in a few years. With 97 entrants, I think the numbers state for themselves how large the community is, especially with players traveling out of state to make it, like SS | Soft among a few others.
