It’s finally here! It’s amazing that we’ve set another new record in tournament attendance, meaning that this is probably the first national for many of you. Here are five quick tips to make your experience more enjoyable.

1. Come on time for your matches!

I cannot emphasize this enough. At a local, people will be lenient if you’re late. Nationals need to run on a tight schedule and will d/q people very liberally.  I’d highly recommend coming a half hour early to your pool. If you’re in an earlier pool, come at least 90 minutes ahead of time, especially if you need to pick up your badge. The check-in lines tend to be brutal.

2. Meet New People

This is the one opportunity to have a blast with Smashers from across the world. The FGC community also tends to be really nice. Take this weekend to introduce yourself to new people, play friendlies, and hang out.

3. Come Early for Finals on Sunday

To get good seats to spectate, you need to come early. I highly recommend coming to watch the awards ceremony right before Melee so that you can swoop in and take the front seats after it’s over. You’re watching history in the making, why not grab the best seats in the house?

4. Wear Deodorant

5. Have Fun

Only one person comes out the winner, which is bound to disappoint many. It’s easy to build up tournament jitters and anxiety during the course of the tournament. If you lose, you lose. Remember, you have a whole weekend of Vegas to hang out and have fun, which is what this is all about.
