Welcome Leffen, Armada, and aMSa to the mix that will be present at the final brackets of MLG Anaheim, joining C9.Mang0, Curse.Hungrybox, P4K EMP Mew2king, and Remen. Although Armada and aMSa haven’t “officially” qualified, they have enough points to get in regardless.
What’s Left?
We have two remaining qualifiers, Pat’s House and SKTAR 3, to accumulate points. Both of these tournaments will feature several players who have won bids already and there is a likely chance that they will win these respective tournaments, leaving more slots open for “at-large” players.
Tafo’s Predictions
MIOM|Tafo’s prediction of final placings by points
I must openly admit that I love applying spreadsheets whenever possible. Here’s a chart showing the points of players either above 1200 pts or have multiple qualifiers still left to potentially gain a spot. The “Final Score” column indicates what I believe each player will receive in points after everything is done. The “Tafo Chances %” is what I perceive to be the player’s odds to get into the MLG playoffs. Please note that although some players have a higher final score, they may have a lower % chance due to perceived variance. Also, here are the point totals I believe that people need to hit.
2200+ = 95% chance of qualifying
2100-2199 = Borderline (~70%)
2000-2099 = ??? (20-50%)
Previously, I mentioned that Armada and aMSa are virtual locks, leaving 5 more slots left for everyone else. Here’s my thoughts on the potential candidates
EG.PPMD (Needs: Top 3 at SKTAR3)
– This is tougher than people realize. Between Armada, M2K, and Mango, PPMD will have to beat at least one of them to get top 3. Losing to one of them in Winner’s Semis and another in Loser’s Semi’s would give PPMD 4th place, which would be insufficient.
SS|S0ft (Needs: 49th or better at SKTAR3)
– S0ft is in the driver’s seat for qualifying. He’ll need at least 200 points to qualify. 49th place would give s0ft 2200 points and 33rd place would give him a grand total of 2300 points.
VGBC|Hax (Needs: 13th or better at SKTAR3)
– Hax had a wrist injury that took him out of contention at Get on my Level earlier this month. To guarantee a spot, Hax will need a 9th place performance, which is doable. A 13th place would put Hax in a borderline position
West Coast Players (Westballz, MIOM|SFAT, MMG|Shroomed) (Need: Top 4 at Pat’s House, Top 8 at SKTAR)
– This will be really difficult as Pat’s House will be incredibly stacked with M2K, Hbox, Fly, Axe, SFAT, PPU, s2j, Lucky, Westballz, Shroomed, HMW, Fiction, MacD. Since all 3 players listed at 0 pts, they will need miracle runs at two tournaments to get a spot.
EMG KirbyKaze (Needs: Top 8 at SKTAR3)
– KirbyKaze will need a Top 8 performance at SKTAR to have a chance at qualifying. This is very doable, but not guaranteed, given that more top players are registering for SKTAR. A shaky performance at The Next Episode in Norcal makes me a little uncomfortable to say he will get in definitely.
Duck (Needs: 13th or better at SKTAR3)
– 13th would put Duck in contention at 2100 pts, which is borderline. A 9th place performance would definitely give Duck a spot, given that he has 1200 points already. It’s doable as long as Duck can land a good Sheik-less bracket.
CT|Zero (Needs: 17th or better at Pat’s House 3, 17th or better at SKTAR3)
– Zero has a sizable amount of points while also attending the next two qualifiers. Talent-wise, Zero is probably a step behind many other contenders, but he can earn a spot with decent performances at both tournaments. It’s well within reach for our Brawl star.
East Coast Stars (Nintendude, CTRL|The Moon) (Needs: Top 8 at SKTAR3)
Nintendude and The Moon are both very talented players that have also accumulated a decent amount of points. It’s definitely a reach for them, but if they get good brackets along with some upsets, they could get top 8 and a spot in the final bracket.
