Hey all. I’m excited to share that the last piece of #TBH5 Compendium finally came together this week at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan.
Using extra compendium funds, we partnered up with Gamers Outreach, a charity organization that provides equipment to help kids cope with hospital treatment, to build a portable gaming kiosk (“GO Kart”) for the Hurley Children’s Hospital game room. Patients at the pediatric intensive care unit will now be able to fire up Smash and other games during their stay; a big upgrade to the current selection of recreational activities!
In a region like Flint that’s had it rough lately, and especially at Hurley which is city-funded and often limited in resources, I’m so happy a Smash tourney of all things could help make a difference. In the midst of the excitement and drama that comes with the platinum age, we can sometimes forget the big picture of giving back to the community. Thank you again everyone who donated to, participated in, or helped create the compendium last year. This is going to impact the children in and around Flint for years, and it’s all thanks to the Smash scene.
I want to personally shout out Redact (Philip Pretty), flan (Shantanu Talapatra), and the entire rest of the @smashgg team for making #TBH5 compendium possible in the first place. Eternally grateful for their hard work making this happen.
You can read more about how the GO Kart is being implemented at Hurley Children’s Hospital in this article by Gamers Outreach:
