The Genesis tournament series has been legendary for the fantastic Melee storylines and rivalries it has created. It brings the best out of players and, with over 1,800 players registered to play Melee, they’ll need to be at their finest to win.

The players among the MeleeItOnMe Top 10 have been top players for years, establishing consistent placings and tournament victories. It may seem like an insurmountable wall for those outside it to climb. While many speculate how one of them will take home the gold, there are a few names overlooked that may seriously shake up the bracket and maybe even secure a place into the coveted top 8.

TGL | Druggedfox

p18

We all saw what Druggedfox looks like on a good day at EVO 2015. While not being able to clutch out the win, Druggedfox demonstrated that he had what it takes to play on par to give Leffen a proper challenge.

His other recent performances show what he can do if the bracket is just right. At Tipped Off 11 he managed to win the tournament with an insane Loser’s Bracket run, and at even more stacked events like HTC Throwdown and MLG World Finals 2015, he placed 4th and 5th, defeating juggernauts such as Mango, SFAT, Colbol, and Wizzrobe.

That’s the tough part though, his bracket needs to be right and he needs to be at the top of his game. The Big House 5 showed what happens if he’s not, in which he suffered an early pools loss to Ginger and eventual elimination by Plup. Keep an eye out for Druggedfox: if he’s on the top of his game he may shake up the bracket in a big way.

/r/ Tekk

p43

With Tekk able to come to the states for the first time thanks to the /r/smashbros player fund, it is time to see what another top tier Jigglypuff can do on American soil.

But why could he make big waves at Genesis 3? First, make a list of top tier Jigglypuff mains (other than Hbox). The closest we have is Prince Abu maybe followed by S0ft or 4%. Even if we count players not as close to their caliber, there are very few players with proper experience against a high caliber Jigglypuff. Now add to it how different and aggressive his play is compared to other Jigglypuff players; Conventional experience may not even help against Tekk.

While having an oddly low placement at Dreamhack, he lost to a player from Europe, Fuzzyness, a player who has better knowledge of how he plays. Yet, Tekk has seen great success against several Top US players such as Duck and Zhu, while giving Westballz a run for his money.

Tekk has a high likelihood of taking down players not ready for his unique style of Jigglypuff and if he avoids other European players who know his playstyle like Armada and Leffen (with a visa status is still unknown), he could have a spectacular run at Genesis 3.

PG | Wobbles

p32

Wobbles on the right day is not a name you want to see in bracket. When he’s not sandbagging with Mario, he has seen great success at several tournaments with his beloved Ice Climbers. He took down Axe 3-2 at Low Tier City then proceeded to beat Mew2King TWICE, once in winners finals and once in grand finals both 3-1, taking three three stock matches, as Mew2King used Peach: Ice Climber’s worst matchup. He’s also secured victories against SFAT, Westballz, and Lucky within the past year.

Not impressive enough? Let’s not forget how close he was to bringing home the gold at Evo 2013. Where he took down PPMD, Hungrybox, and even Mang0 although he wasn’t able to secure the the win in grand finals.

If Wobbles gets the right bracket, he is not only capable of causing huge upsets and running through the tournament, but also has the best chance out of all these underdogs to win the tournament.

With these three selections out of the way, who do YOU think could shake up the bracket and make top 8? Did I miss someone? Drop a comment and keep a close eye on pools: even with the top 64 seeded out of day one some excitement is bound to happen!
