Training for Evo
After Zenith I was pretty happy for myself but I knew that winning Zenith would be worthless if I didn’t win Evo. So the smash grind had begun. For the first time in I think YEARS, I actually practiced every day, at least 2-5 hours. The few days I didn’t play I took time out of my day to think about the game and think of new ideas that I would want to incorporate into my game. I watched matches of me getting junked and made mental notes to not to make those mistakes again. I watched matches where I destroyed and made sure to use some of those tricks again (but not all of them because I gotta stay fre$h LMAOO).
Winning Evo was all I thought about. When I would wake up I’d be like “one day closer to glory,” and before I went to bed I would say “one day closer to potential heartbreak.” However I always had faith that I could bring home the gold.
I was in Canada when I found out that Armada could possibly attend Evo. A part of me was super excited because I wanted some redemption after those BEAST friendlies, and him winning the last time we played in tourney. Another part of me was like, dayum, now I have to worry about Armada on top of everyone else. However I knew it would make my win all the better. I didn’t want people to say “oh well, Armada wasn’t there.”
So I carried on with my practice with Armada in mind now. As time went on, I started getting more pumped and excited for Evo. The day was approaching really fast and I was more prepared for a tourney then I have honestly ever been. My consistency in my play was there, my mentality was there, my heart to want to win was there, now all that was left was to execute it all.
